Make a ring with me!
And this is only snippets of what actually goes into making just a very simple stacking ring and the equipment needed. It definitely takes longer than this reel!
The sound of jewellery making is really something beautiful, the chime of the tools the hammering sound against the metal, although some hate the sound of filling it does something to your teeth for some, you know that sensation? and the polishing machine is something that can really grate on your hearing running all day! The machine is pretty noisy especially having an open workshop to the shop area so we actually keep that in another room to dampen the sound. But to me making jewellery is music to my ears!
So I’ve been making stacking rings for around 12 years they are one of our best sellers and recently I had to put them up in price along with my other jewellery due to the crazy 170% increase in metal prices, however I kept it at a minimum and took some losses into account. these ones went up by a mere £3 from £25 - £28 but baring in mind I have to give 20% of that to VAT it only leaves £23.33 plus in addition the cost of the silver to actually make it, card machine transaction payments, electricity, shop overheads, staff costs, items such a saw blades polishing compounds etc and so much more! you can see from how much goes into making just this one piece that us jewellers aren’t being greedy we put so much into making each piece, it’s our time love and care that goes into being handmade. So I really think handmade jewellery is worth every penny and what you buy now is only going to go up in value!
