Many of our clients have either installed solar panels on the roof of their properties or are considering it. These are often sold with the promise of lowering energy costs & reduced environmental impact. Whilst these systems are generally safe, incorrect installation or lack of regular maintenance can increase the risk of fire making it essential that policyholders understand their responsibilities. Such installations usually need to be declared to insurers as many apply special terms & conditions. Our friends at NBS have produced a very interesting article on the topic.

It is important that any such systems are regularly inspected & maintained & suitable records kept. Signs should be clearly displayed on the outside of the building warning emergency services of the presence of photovoltaic &/or solar panels & the location of the DC isolating switch should be detailed on the premises fire risk assessment & site plans.

Participated in a fascinating webinar today on the use of AI. As someone with little to no experience of this resource I was amazed what it can do with the right prompts. I asked it to create a 10 minute presentation for a networking group and was really impressed with the output. It produced a leaflet as part of the presentation which was far better than I could have done by myself. Looking forward to finding out what else it can help me with.

With the sale of Rumwell Hall earlier this year we have had to move offices and I'm pleased to announce that from 1st November 2025 our new address is Room 5 Raglan House, 2 Middle Street, Taunton, Somerset TA1 1SH. Citroen/DS have issued a stop-drive recall for some C3 & DS3 models due to airbag issues. This has made these cars unsafe to drive until they've been repaired.

Owners of these vehicles need to check if their car is affected by the safety recall & they can do this by entering their Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) on Citroen's website https://www.citroen.co.uk/maintain/safety-recall-check.html . They will find the VIN on their V5C registration certificate. If their car is affected they need to stop driving it immediately. If they don't they risk putting themselves & others in danger.

The recall has an impact upon the insurance of affected owners. Their vehicles won't be safe to drive & consequently there is a possibility that their insurance policy won't cover them to drive around like they usually would. They should, however, be insured to drive to & from the dealership or garage they've booked to fix the airbag issue. They will also continue to have Third Party, Fire & Theft cover at a fixed location (such as their driveway) while they wait for their appointment. Once the issue's been fixed, their cover should return to normal.
