When at art school in the 60s my art teacher Phil Upchurch wrote 'old hat'

across my drawing of a realistic landscape with a house and a figure, for many years I pondered on that and in the end I realized he was right . We have been copyists and colourists reproducing other artist's styles and subjects for a captured audience . I wanted to use the style I have sketched in all my life, a loose and emotional way that quickly sets the painting and its shape, the medium falling where it wished and I used little control, watching for images to appear naturally. My critics want me to paint realism. I find the metaphysical and fantasy much more interesting but less lucrative.. but artists suffer for their artistry .I am preoccupied with 3 things I suppose as I have grown older and less precious about my image, the fear of struggle to survive, the predatory male, and female passion . none of which I fully understand and most of the images are my thoughts and the inconclusive conclusions during sleepless nights .. many of my images are dreams.

You know it's one of those days when you pick up your keyboard to borrow for work and 10 minutes later it is no where to be seen! I have sent myself crazy looking and am now an hour & a half late. I give up! I need a spell for 'finding lost things' My apologies for being late! - I'm here now!
