What is the value of my jewellery? There are so many different values.There is the price which you paid new for the goods, the amount of v.a.t. which was included in the price, then the second hand value. Obviously we cannot market your jewellery for the same new price which you paid for it. People want a bargain when buying second-hand. Often jewellery is sold on well under half the new retail price. We also need to make at least the same percentage profit which jewellers make on new jewellery, because we have to guarantee it ourselves. If there is a fault on new jewellery the retailer simply returns it to the manufacturer for a full credit. We do not have that ability to refer back to the seller. You therefore have to be realistic about the price you can obtain for your goods. It all depends on how well you made your original purchase, whether it was new or second-hand and what work if any needs to be done to make it saleable.
