You don’t need more followers to get more bookings, that’s not the problem. You need stronger positioning.

One of the biggest mistakes hair extension specialists make is thinking a client’s hair extension plan should stay the same forever.

It shouldn’t.❌

In fact, if you’re doing your job properly, it probably won’t.

This client originally came to me after years of bleaching. Her natural hair was weaker, finer and couldn’t comfortably support the amount of hair she ultimately wanted. (Can’t find her before pics)

So we started where HER hair was at.

👉🏼Fewer grams.

👉🏼tailored colour match to BOTH her natural hair AND the blonde she had (and still partially wanted)

👉🏼A plan that worked for her hair at that moment in time.

Fast forward to today and everything has changed.

Her natural ginger is growing through beautifully. Her hair is healthier, longer and thicker than when we first started. Which means the extension plan has evolved too. We’re now adding more grams, adjusting the colour match, placement alterations and creating a completely different result than we could have achieved safely on day one.

This is why I always say hair extensions aren’t a one-time service.

They’re a journey.✨

SOMETIMES LESS IS MORE🤍

Sophie has been coming to me for extensions since 2019. When she first came to me, her hair was shoulder length, very fine and bright blonde. Over the years, she’s gradually gone back to her natural darker colour, her own hair has grown massively, thickened up beautifully… but she’s always loved the look and feeling of extensions. We’ve had many sets together 😅

For years, we’ve fitted around 180–200g because Sophie loved having maximum fullness and length. Even in September 2024, when we fitted a brand new set of 24” nanos, we still fitted the full 200g and she left really happy. (Pic 6)

But over the last few refits, something started changing.🤔

The extensions were starting to feel disconnected at the ends, heavier through the top, and although the hair still looked lovely, it didn’t feel as seamless and effortless as it used to. We trimmed them shorter, adjusted things slightly, but it still wasn’t quite right. (Pic 5)

So this appointment, I asked Sophie to trust me completely.

We removed everything, trimmed her natural hair properly and reassessed the whole look from scratch. And honestly? Her natural hair had grown SO much (pic 4).

So instead of automatically refitting 200g again because “that’s what we always do”, I rebuilt the entire placement and only fitted back 140g.

And the difference was HUGE.

The blend became softer, more natural and more believable. The slight lighter pieces left from old blonde work started working WITH the extensions instead of against them, creating this really effortless dimensional effect through the ends. The overall result looked more expensive, more seamless and much more suited to where Sophie’s natural hair is at now. (Pics 1-3)

This is the part people don’t always understand about extension work, adding more hair does not automatically equal better results or a better blend!

The best extension specialists aren’t the ones fitting the most grams possible. They’re the ones who understand:
• density
• placement
• balance
• proportion
• the client’s natural hair journey
• and when LESS actually creates a better result.

Sometimes the real expertise is knowing when to stop adding more🤍

Hair extension techs… this is the kind of work that separates true extension specialists from people who just know how to fit hair.

This client has naturally grey hair, a very fine density and a much softer, more delicate hair type… which means every single part of this appointment had to be completely bespoke.

The colour matching alone is advanced.

Natural grey hair is hard to match because extensions are dyed different shades, and a natural grey is unique. It exposes poor blending instantly and can look flat or obvious very quickly if the tones are even slightly wrong. This is not the kind of hair where you can just pick one shade and hope it works.

Then there’s the placement map.

On finer density hair like this, every section, every placement and every gram matters. You cannot apply extensions the same way you would on thicker hair because the scalp visibility, tension and weight distribution all need to be considered properly.

And then the blend and finish…

Creating a result that still looks soft, seamless and believable on hair like this without exposing bonds, creating bulk or making the hair look “extensiony” is advanced work.

This is the level of extension knowledge my clients and students come to me for.

Because I understand:
• colour theory
• bespoke placement
• tension management
• density balancing
• natural blending
• advanced finishing

…and that’s what makes somebody an actual expert.
