For the past year and a half, I’ve been training as a reflexologist — focusing particularly on supporting women through pregnancy and the menopause.
Reflexology is an incredible, almost magical therapy that helps bring the body back into balance through gentle manipulation of the feet (or hands). With around 200,000 nerve endings, your feet are among the most sensitive parts of your body and are thought to reflect a map of your internal systems. During a session, a reflexologist can often feel areas of tension, heat, or congestion — clues that guide them, like a detective, to where balance needs to be restored. By working on these areas, we aim to release tension and support the body’s natural ability to rebalance itself.
Many of us spend too much time in a state of “fight or flight,” where the sympathetic nervous system is constantly activated. Reflexology encourages the opposite — activating the parasympathetic nervous system so the body can rest and reset. As this happens, your heart rate slows, digestion regulates, and your breathing deepens, helping you return to a calm, restorative state.
My own journey with reflexology began when I was pregnant with my eldest daughter, under the care of the wonderful . The treatments were invaluable for easing aches and pains and soothing my overactive nervous system. Over the past decade, I’ve continued to receive regular reflexology and have experienced profound benefits.
I’m now delighted to have set up my own therapy room. If you’re in the Dorset area (around Shaftesbury) and are looking for a reflexologist, I’d love to hear from you.
