Mae Sa Valley snippets… Motorbiking round the hills finding pockets of fun and snacks in some surprising places. Including WTF coffee camp (always a giggle and an excuse 🤭🙄) which we thought was going to be a shack and turned out to be a whole waterfall/resort experience. Thought we’d be there 30 mins and it soon turned into 4 hrs. Next stop Phuket…

Four nights in Chiang Mai after Bangkok was a dream. Highlights include massages , breakfast smoothie bowls , the night markets and the khao soi wherever we could get it! Even managed to do a wee bit of drawing after being inspired by workshop. Hired a motorbike on the last day as we’re heading for the hills next to explore the Mae Sa Valley ….

Let’s talk mountains… whether you like climbing or looking at them, talking about them or running over them, there is just smthg about them that captures our attention. Maybe it’s about the people you’re walking with or the people you meet on the way or the memories they evoke from childhood adventures. Perhaps it’s the views along the way or the discoveries you make when you pause for breath or a snack. When I designed The Biggie I wanted to capture all of this. I particularly enjoy their silhouettes, and the way when you’re driving along the windy roads you suddenly see a mountain from a new perspective, or the overlapping layers of one hill after another. This blanket is the biggest one available (98 x 220cm). It’s reversible, the background fades from one end to the other and the mountain drawings are at the top and the bottom. Whether you like the tones of the slate/chalk one, with its effervescent yellow edge or the brighter green/haar one or the deep orange/palest of pink one they work in different ways around the home. A splash of colour in a neutral colour scheme or a welcome addition to an already colourful interior, it’s so lovely to see how colour affects our mood. A bit like climbing a mountain. Special thanks to & his beautiful wife for commissioning a slate/chalk/evoo one a number of years ago. It turned out to be my bestseller. And another “woop” for those who always want the brightest thing going! Smthg for everyone I hope x

Available on Fri for £200 each …
2 x Coral orange/blush
4 x Green/haar
1 x Slate/chalk

Hello - many of you will know that we have just moved away from the NW highlands down to East Lothian. We’ve had 8 amazing years at Kylesku and from a creative perspective I don’t think I’ve lived anywhere as inspiring as the remoteness of Assynt. It’s a total feast for the eyes and I have loved the way the colours and textures have influenced my design work. It has been such a privilege getting to ‘do up’ 10 little lodges with blankets, cushions and other interior pieces to make them more homely and comfortable for guests. I’ve been blown away by the lovely warm feedback we’ve had from guests and to know we have made them feel welcome and cared for by providing a thoughtful “home from home” has given me such a fuzzy feeling many a time. Now that we are moving away it feels like a good time to take some time out, do a bit of travelling and see what new ideas come to the surface. I have always loved making as well as designing and it’s exciting to think I can maybe do a bit more of that in some new shape or form. I’ve no idea where this will take me and yet it feels right to take the opportunity to say a huge thanks for all your support and encouragement. I also need to clear some space for these ‘new ideas’ and so I’m planning a flash sale of blankets this Friday and Saturday. Some colourways are very limited but I’m reducing them all to £200. This includes UK postage. Unfortunately postage to the EU or the US or beyond will need to be added on. If you have had your eye on smthg for a while please get in touch. Otherwise the prices will be reduced on my website on Friday at 8am. Let’s stay in touch and I’ll continue to use this space to share my inspo and work.

Hello again it’s on the with today. Here’s a little background on me and where you can see my work.

I went to Art School aged 45. It wasn’t really on my radar til then. When I look back it’s clear I always loved transforming and making, whether that be clothes or interior spaces. Discovering that you’re good enough at any stage of life is liberating and taking a chance on a new opportunity is smthg I would wholeheartedly recommend. Six years ago, we moved from the city to the far NW and took over a holiday lodge business and it was the perfect opp to renovate cabins with textiles and prints that would make guests feel welcome and at home. So in the Spring & Summer I’m ‘Mrs Holiday host’ and in the Autumn & Winter I’m able to get out and about and do exhibitions and markets. Tomorrow (Sun 18th dec) is the last day of a pop-up exhibition I’m doing with some friends in Dundas Street Gallery in Edinburgh (11-3). I’ve designed some new wall hangings inspired by coastal living. If you fancy a look it would be great to see you.
We also have a shop up at Kylesku which is on the if you’re passing through next year.

Hello it’s on the today. My name is Catherine Sinclair, originally from Edinburgh, now living in Kylesku on the NW coast of Sutherland.

I studied textile design (specialising in knit) , graduating in 2018.

I design knitted scarves, blankets and cushions from my studio in Kylesku. My inspiration comes from the textures and colours of the Scottish landscape and the connection between adventure and shelter.

‘On the Surface’ is a joint exhibition exploring texture on textiles, jewellery and print with me, Caroline Finlay and Angela Learoyd - Dundas Street Gallery Edinburgh EH3 6HZ : 15th - 18th Dec (Thurs 11-8, Fri & Sat 11-5, Sun 11-4). I am launching my new limited edition reversible wall hangings inspired by the coastline of the NW. Twists and turns reveal hidden beaches and forests, craggy rocks and wildlife popping up just when you least expect it. The coastal wall hanging is a reflection of all this and invites the watcher to dream of adventures and new discoveries. It is designed to be reversible so on those days you want to see the vibrant craggy colours pick the bold side and if you want a more tonal, reflective look, just turn the hanging over. Each hanging consists of five different coloured yarns designed to create depth and shadow.

I will be at The V&A Dundee next weekend (25-27 Nov) as part of Tea Green Pop Up Events. This is the first of three events I’m doing between now and the end of the year. It would be lovely to see you if you feel like a jaunt to sunny Dundee. I’ll also be at Kibble Palace in Glasgow on the 10,11th Dec and at Dundas Street Gallery in Edinburgh with something completely new from the 15-18th Dec. Hope to see you!
