I had a lovely surprise visitor to the workshop 🧡

The wonderful Sheila Fleet stopped by Hoswick - and it turns out two jewellers from the northern isles have quite a lot to talk about. Who would have expected that! 😄

Sheila is one of Scotland’s most celebrated jewellery makers and businesswomen, based in Orkney, and it was a pleasure to share my workshop, my jewellery, and a good yarn with her.

There’s something special about connecting with another maker who understands the particular magic - and the particular wildness - of creating from a small Scottish island 🌬️ 🌊

For such a small village, we’re home to Nielanell, Shetland Woollen Company, musicians, photographers, playwrights, makers, artists and craftspeople, alongside Hoswick Visitor Centre that celebrates work from across Shetland.

I’m not sure I have the words for this yet.

The last year has included some of the hardest days of my life, and some of the most clarifying about what is most important - love ❤️

The last week and a half has been something else entirely.

The love, kindness and support Bryan and me received has been overwhelming in the best possible way. Alongside that, there have been so many quiet acts of kindness - gifts pressed into hands, messages, prayers, conversations, support in ways both seen and unseen.

We’re taking things one step at a time right now - but I just wanted to pause and say thank you 🤍

Show the people you love that you love them - that’s what Bryan and I have found ourselves saying regularly ❤️

Last year gave us a bit of a wake-up call about what really matters. When you’ve stared down the scary stuff, you realise the everyday things are actually the big things.

The “I love you” before leaving the house.
The cup of tea made without asking.
The hand squeeze in a waiting room.

So today we’re keeping it simple: tell the people you love that you love them.

Your person. Your parents. Your friends. Your kids. Your cat. Whoever.

Don’t overthink it. Just say it.

As excitement builds for Lerwick Up Helly-Aa, I’m sharing the ‘Snarl’ ring from the Wolf Collection which was developed with Leigh & Vicki Smith, the South Mainland UHA Jarl Squad in ‘24 🐺

A bold hand-carved gold ring with Norse inspired detailing, it bites the finger like a clenched wolf’s jaw. It symbolises fierce loyalty and the protective power of wolves teeth ❤️

If you’re out and about during the festivities, or need to clear your head on Hop Day, my workshop in Hoswick will be open throughout Up Helly Aa. You’re very welcome to pop in, warm your hands, and see the pieces up-close! 😍

All the Hoswick businesses and the Hoswick Visitor Centre are open too so make a day of it 😊
