ewellery artists out there all creating stunning pieces, but my love is working traditionally; there are no machines that cut the metal, and none that shape it - just me and my saw and hammer (and often brute force and a file or two!) My style is primitive I like to think - in an Iceni way - If Boudicca were alive now, I reckon she'd wear some of my stuff!

Well…we survived the show!

Mostly.

A moment’s silence please for the Iceni show table hare, who made it through the entire event completely unscathed, only to lose BOTH ears as he was being packed into the car at the very end.

Not one ear. Both. Clean off.

There’s probably a lesson in there about not counting your hares before they’re safely home. 🫣

He’s currently awaiting reconstructive surgery and has been assured that with a little glue and some quiet recuperation, he should make a full recovery.

But earless hare aside, what a lovely few days!

A HUGE thank you to everyone who came along, stopped for a chat, had a look, bought something, said lovely things, and generally made all the hard work worthwhile.

My absolute favourite thing was meeting so many of you lovely people and seeing you WEARING your Iceni creations. Things I made, in my little shed, out there in the wild, living their lives with you. Brilliant!

Mumma Iceni had a ball cuddling Every. Single. Dog that walked past (and there was A LOT!) I think we might have to rename her Nanny Gravy Bone, she went through a couple of boxes of them treating all her new canine friends 😍

I very rarely do shows, in fact the last one was a few years ago, but I think I’ll be doing some more going forward - getting out of the shed and into the fresh air to show has done me lots of good 😊

First day at Wolverton Manor complete! Have had a lovely day chatting to so many of you! Seeing you wearing your Iceni jewellery 😍, hearing how a piece of jewellery I have made has become symbolic of a great family love (might have welled up a bit there, thank you, you know who you are 💚) meeting some of you who have become online and now real life friends through this lovely community we have here 💚 seeing old friends too 😀…aaand, the sun shined beautifully 🌞 Not a huge collection left, but some pieces made just for this weekend. Would love to see you tomorrow and put more faces to names 💚

I meant to post this here yesterday but ended up accidentally posting to my personal page! Fuzzy Head Syndrome 🥴

As it is International Dog’s Day today, and instead of sharing yet another photo of my spaniels, I thought I’d share a tale that isn’t about them completely, (but indirectly) 😊

As you can see, apparently, I have grown a pepper.

Not deliberately, that would be far too competent of me.

It all started with an acorn.

I was growing an acorn in one of those little acorn vases. This particular one was for Harvey. I also have a junior oak in my garden in a big pot called Riker’s Oak that I grew from an acorn, it is named after my first love — who was (you can probably guess) a black cocker spaniel. THE spaniel responsible for my addiction of all spaniels!

Back to the acorn.

I decided it was time to graduate Harvey’s little oak into a properly sized terracotta pot, so I transplanted it and put the pot on the kitchen side, in front of the window.

Sadly, around last Christmas, the little oak died. 😭

But then…

A tiny green shoot appeared in the pot.

I hadn’t planted anything. But, as it was a little life, I left it, and watered it.

January passed. It grew.

February passed. It grew a bit more.

Month by month, this mysterious little thing VERY slowly carried on growing, while I inspected it regularly trying to figure out what it was. By this point, I’d become rather emotionally invested in the little green shoot.

Then it flowered.

And eventually…

A PEPPER APPEARED.

A pepper.

In my acorn pot.

It got longer.

And longer.

And it turns out that I have not-on-purpose successfully grown a sweet pepper!

I would love to tell you that this was the result of my careful propagation, horticultural knowledge and green-fingered expertise.

Alas! It was not.

Eventually it dawned on me that the pot had been sitting RIGHT NEXT TO THE CHOPPING BOARD.

At some point, whilst making a salad, a sweet pepper seed must have pinged off the board, landed in the pot…and then started a new life! I do love a sweet pepper in a salad!

So I now have an accidental pepper son.

And quite possibly he is the first ever sweet pepper plant in history to be grown as a tribute to a dog!

I feel Harvey would approve. 😍

It’s my birthday today, and I’ve had such a lovely one! Mostly in the woods, my bliss! We had a picnic, we had a giggle, we watched the loony spaniels create havoc and chilled, then home to a mahoosive cake and much slothing about. I can’t think of a nicer way to spend a birthday 😍

This T-shirt was one of my gifts (I’ve been too spoiled) and it’s by That Witch Amy Smith - who is one of life’s joyful people, she makes me smile every day with her messages, a beautiful soul 💚 Also, I loved seeing the actual T-shirt (not the design, that’s Amy’s) was made on the Island, Rapanui I reckons, gorgeous thick cotton that’ll last forever. I also got a T-shirt of a Sasquatch blowing a dandelion clock, but that’s a story for another day! 😆

A new chapter for Iceni – Pet Memorial Jewellery

This is something I’ve been working on for a while, and it already feels like such an important part of Iceni.

Jewellery made to remember them. Our dogs, cats, horses and other precious companions who somehow manage to leave enormous paw/hoof and footprints across our lives.

There are already a sparkling number of fab jewellery artists producing resin memorial pieces incorporating ashes, but this has never felt like me, or like Iceni.

So I wanted to find my own way – Using silver with beautiful natural stones and, if you wish, a tiny lock of their fur if you have that.

The fur can be carefully incorporated beneath a stone, hidden and protected within the piece. Something of them, quite literally, held close.

And the stone itself can become part of their story.

It might be chosen because its colours remind you of their fur, their markings or their eyes. The stone might have a meaning that feels just right for them. Or it might simply be a stone that makes you think…that’s them!

For example, the black/grey/white snowflake obsidian chosen for Mumma Iceni’s necklace, sits over a little lock of her beloved Milo dog’s fur. I chose it with Mum because those wonderful black and white markings reminded us so much of his beautiful black and white markings.

And sometimes even a name can lead us to the right stone – a handsome earthy jasper stone to remember gorgeous Jasper dog sits opposite the snowflake obsidian next to an existing pendant of a wren.

The ring pictured is another particularly special piece. A gorgeous golden rutilated quartz is set on fur from my dear friend’s very much loved Labrador, Arthur. We discussed what stones could be used, and she chose the quartz. Those striking threads of gold running through the stone felt just right for Arthur’s warm golden colouring. A citrine finishes the piece to add hints of that deep amber gold.

And that’s really what I want this service to be about. Creating a piece for that precious soul – and I can think of few greater privileges than being trusted to make something that honours them.

The Moonphase earrings, made from sheet silver, which I make from melting sterling silver grain, and then flatten in thee rolling mill. I then texture it with half of a hand made brick made 200 years ago! 😊 the texturing gives them a subtle moon dimpling.
