Two people were arrested after police responded to a report of a burglary in progress near .

At Thursday evening (28 May), a call was made to the police control room stating that two men had been disturbed while allegedly taking tools and metal items from inside a garage.

Members of the public who were outside a nearby pub came to the aid of the vicitim, allowing police to arrive and make a swift arrest.

Response and Neighbourhhood Policing Team officers coordinated a search of the area to try and locate the second suspect, during an extended round of hide and seek.

With the police helicopter providing eyes in the sky, while the dog unit and unmarked vehicles provided resources on the ground, there was no escape and a second man was later arrested.

The investigation is continuing.

🚨 An operation is running in South Oxhey throughout the summer to help tackle criminal and anti-social behaviour involving powered two-wheelers (PTWs), such as e-bikes and motorbikes.

Op Cloze will also target those involved in thefts of PTWs in the area, building on the success of a previous operation last year.

Anti-social use of PTWs impacts the community by making people feel unsafe and puts members of the public at risk of being seriously, or even fatally injured, as well as risking the safety of the riders or their passengers. It also has financial impacts on legitimate owners.

🗣️ PC James, from the Neighbourhood Policing Team, said: “If you’re caught riding an illegal e-bike it will be seized. If you’re seen riding any other vehicle in an anti-social manner, police can issue a written ‘section 59’ warning under the Police Reform Act 2002. If you are caught again within the next 12 months, police have powers to seize your vehicle and riders can also be reported for traffic offences.

“We’re doing all we can to locate and seize these vehicles and have already removed several illegal e-bikes and mopeds from the street. But, while we could be anywhere, we can’t be everywhere, so we’re asking the public to assist us. Information from you is key to helping us gather the evidence we need to take action.”

You can help by providing the following:
• Photos and videos of vehicles and riders - but ONLY if it is safe to take them.
• Specific times and locations that the vehicles have been seen, to enable patrols to be directed accordingly.
• Descriptions of riders and helmets - if they are wearing one.
• Descriptions of bikes - colour, power method etc.
• Details of where bikes are being kept.

Please quote ‘Op Cloze’ when reporting information.

🗣️ PC James continued: “Tackling this issue has been made a local policing priority. We’ll be conducting patrols and running days of action to try and seize these vehicles so make sure you know the law!

“If you or someone you know rides an e-Bike, check whether it meets legal requirements under the Government’s EAPC scheme. If your e-Bike doesn't meet EAPC definitions, then it must be entirely road legal.”

🥶 Beware of cold water shock!

🥶 Beware of cold water shock!

Even on the warmest days, our rivers and lakes stay surprisingly cold. That shock can hit your body hard — making it suddenly difficult to swim or even breathe properly.

If you’re getting into the water, don’t jump in. Take it slow, give your body time to adjust, and stay in control.
And if you ever accidentally fall in:
➡️ Fight the urge to panic
➡️ Tilt your head back
➡️ Spread your arms and legs
➡️ Float… breathe… and regain control

Be Water Aware.

🗣️ During our recent local policing priorities survey, members of the public told us they wanted to see more done to tackle the anti-social use of off-road vehicles around and .

Neighbourhood Teams have been out patrolling hotspot areas, engaging with members of the public and gathering intel.

During the warmer months, police tend to receive an increase in reports of off-road bikes being ridden on public land, or on private farmland without permission.

This behaviour causes noise nuisance and puts members of the public at risk of being seriously, or even fatally injured, as well as the riders themselves. It also causes damage to crops, leading to unnecessary financial losses for hardworking farmers.

If you are caught riding illegally or anti-socially, police can issue a written ‘section 59’ warning under the Police Reform Act 2002. If you are caught again within the next 12 months, police have powers to seize your vehicle. If offenders do not subsequently reclaim them and pay storage or recovery fees, their vehicles can be crushed. Riders can also be reported for traffic offences.

Throughout last week, we supported , a national campaign to tackle knife crime.

Here are some of the things that officers from the Neighbourhood Team in got up to:

✅ High-visibility patrols were conducted.
✅ Residents were spoken to.
✅ Schools were visited, to help educate young people.
✅ Volunteer Police Cadets and the Special Constabulary joined the team to conduct a test purchase operation. Attempts were made to purchase knives underage at a number of locations. All but one correctly refused the sale, with words of advice given.

The engagements allowed us to address concerns, reassure residents and gather feedback and intelligence.

Thank you to everyone who spoke to us 😊
