I made it to a gym class yesterday 💪
As I sat on that bike, I realised it had taken far more than 45 minutes to get there.
Before I left, dinner had to be sorted, the kids fed dinner and Lily breastfed and changed.
And it got me thinking about how much women carry every single day.
The doctor’s appointments.
The dentist appointments.
The birthday parties.
The presents.
The school emails.
The shoes they’ve suddenly grown out of.
The haircuts.
The clothes that need sorting.
The swimming lessons.
The childcare arrangements.
Remembering who needs what, when, and where.
Talking to other Mums recently, I’ve realised so many of us feel exactly the same.
For generations, women have often been the ones carrying the majority of the household organisation. Things have changed enormously and most women now work as well, but somehow a lot of that invisible planning and remembering still falls to us.
Don’t get me wrong, I’m lucky. Matt does his fair share. He cooks, food shops and is a brilliant Dad.
But even with support, fitting in something as simple as a 45-minute gym class can feel like a military operation.
It’s not always the doing that’s exhausting. It’s being the one who has to remember it all.
So yesterday wasn’t really about the gym. It was about reminding myself that looking after everyone else is important, but looking after ourselves matters too.
Anyone else feel the same? ❤️
