One of the most extraordinary objects of the European Bronze Age may have a very special Cornish connection it's beyond me if this is actually true but there you go.

The Nebra Sky Disc, discovered in Germany, dates to around 1600 BC and is one of the earliest known representations of the heavens. It shows a crescent moon, a possible full sun or moon, 32 stars—including the distinctive cluster of the Pleiades—and golden arcs representing the horizon and the movement of the sun.
But where did its precious metals come from?
Scientific analysis has found that the gold used to decorate the disc closely matches gold from Cornwall, particularly alluvial gold associated with the River Carnon in the Devoran area. Research has also linked the tin in the bronze to Cornwall.
That means that more than 3,500 years ago, metals from Cornwall were potentially travelling hundreds of miles across Europe and ending up on an object representing the Bronze Age understanding of the night sky.
It gives us a remarkable glimpse into the scale of prehistoric trade and connections. Cornwall wasn't an isolated corner of Britain—it was part of a much wider network of people, metals, ideas and technology stretching across Europe.
And perhaps most amazingly, Bronze Age evidence for working these resources is now emerging from Cornwall itself. An antler pick from the Carnon Valley has been dated to the Early Bronze Age and provides evidence connected with prehistoric extraction of tin and/or alluvial gold.
So when we look at the golden stars of the Nebra Sky Disc, we may literally be looking at a tiny piece of ancient Cornwall.
Cornish gold. Cornish tin. A German sky. One extraordinary Bronze Age story.
