Justin Duance Jewellery

Justin Duance Jewellery Contemporary jewellery cast in beach sand and inlaid with hardwoods. Commissions welcome, including remodelling heirloom materials. www.justind.co.uk

After finishing his degree in jewellery and silversmithing at Sir John Cass Faculty of Art, London in 2000 Justin started his business. He soon found that London the cost of living in London was too high to start a small business in designing and making contemporary jewellery so Justin moved back to Cornwall and gradually built up the workshop to where it is today. Justin’s silver and gold contemp

orary jewellery is deeply influenced by the surrounding countryside and ocean. He is especially fascinated by the way they engage with each other, constantly conflicting, whilst paradoxically achieving a harmonic balance. The gold and silver jewellery that Justin produces uses the contrast between the textures of the land and sea. He does this by combining wood with gold and silver to give the piece an elemental feel, or by texturing the metal in a way that creates a feeling of organic movement. This culminates in contemporary gold and silver pieces of jewellery, which change with wear in much the same way as the sea shapes the coastlines of Cornwall. Contemporary Silver Jewellery
Justin Duance designs and creates his contemporary jewellery using a stylishly understated combination of silver or gold and non-precious materials, such as wood and resin. Justin Duance is a young designer, based in Penwith, in Cornwall. The wood in Justin’s gold and silver contemporary jewellery will change over time and with wear making each piece entirely unique and personal to the wearer. Each contemporary piece, whether made with gold, silver, palladium or platinum , is hallmarked and has Justin Duance’s makers mark, so you can be sure of the content, purity of the metal used.

It's high time we shared this sandcast pebble necklace commission.

A full length of beads, each cast from heirloom gold turned into varying shades of yellow, rose and white.

Our lovely customer wanted it to feel like a collection of beach finds, strung together. Indeed some of these shapes were cast from pebbles she collected from her favourite place.

It was a very sentimental and special piece to make, each bead cast in beach sand and ashes.

The sand library.

Our workshop walls are lined with shelves of sand from all over the world that people have sent us to cast their jewellery in.

It’s nice to think of the love and excitement that each of these jars holds.

Happy memories captured in a handful of beach sand.

What we don’t use is kept, cataloged and marked on our sand map on our website, so you can choose the sand your jewellery is cast in.

It’s always special when we happen to have a sand in our collection that’s meaningful to someone.

Our St Ives pendant is cast in Porthmeor beach sand, and a nod to the artist Barbra Hepworth. The sandcasting gives each pendant a lovely organic and unique texture. Each one cast from solid silver or gold.

We will send this pendant on a matching silver or gold curb chain. We keep 16”, 18” and 20” at the workshop.

Make your pendant extra special by choosing the sand it is cast in.
