I recently had the absolute honour of creating a memorial piece for Trevor, and I am so pleased at how this turned out.
Trevor wanted his mothers ashes immortalised in a signet ring. We started with an initial sketch, a simple signet with the Trefoil design I’m known well for…we then developed that out further, by making it a bi-metal design. We kept the majority of the ring Sterling Silver to and the part containing the ashes, Gold, which is the metal his mother wore and was most fond of.
We then added my trefoil cut ours to the shank of the band, as Trevor is a big fan of my work which features these elements.
Then it came to crafting the piece, this is my first bi-metal piece of jewellery and I used a lock and key kind of two part construction, where a “key” pin was left on the Silver ring which slotted into the “lock” hole in the Gold top, ensuring it sat perfectly aligned during soldering.
A huge learning curve for me, and one that has made me excited to try and do more bi-metal work.
