METTLE DESIGN was born from many years working as design engineers, working on large scale commercial products, down to smaller scale product design. It was a natural progression to create the designs we have presented to you on this site. We use cutting edge commercial 2D and 3D CAD packages to design our products, the use of such software means we can produce and prototype the piece in a ‘real
world’ environment. This method gives us the ability to fit the component parts together and check the size, fit and end design before any manufacturing takes place. This also means that manufacturing is planned before any materials are cut and practically eliminates wasted time and materials due to errors. The metal is cut using a laser cutter; this cutting method is at the forefront of metal cutting technology and can cut solid mild steel (along with other materials) from 0.5-20mm in thickness, on multiple axes, with micrometer high precision. Using these processes we create custom designed and laser cut products. We can supply custom parts and plates with any detailaing you require. Various thicknesses of Mild Steel (M/S), Stainless Steel (S/S) and Aluminium (ALU) from 1.2mm up. Differerent finishes available, these can be:
Bare (M/S) - to give a good patina with time (process can be accelerated using products available online)
Plain (S/S, ALU) - which can be polished
Mirror finish - S/S only
Manufacturing Finishes (S/S, ALU) - such as brushed stainlees steel or aluminium. Please ask about other finishes if you have something in mind.
