❄️ Winter Preparedness ❄️

Is your household ready for winter?

Newry knows the impact flooding can have on our businesses, homes and wider community. Taking time to prepare now can help if flooding, severe weather or power cuts occur.

The Building Resilience in Communities (BRIC) project’s ‘5 Steps to Be Ready’ campaign offers some practical advice:

• Download the Met Office app and enable weather warnings

• Check eligibility for the NIE Networks and NI Water Customer Care Registers

• Prepare a home emergency kit with essentials such as a torch, medication, emergency contacts and a phone charger

• Complete a home emergency plan

• Read NI Direct’s ‘Be Ready for Emergencies’ guidance

Please share this information with your family, colleagues and anyone who may find it useful.

Find the guidance and downloadable checklist in the images.

Newry Christmas Charity Lunch Returns ✨

The 27th Newry Christmas Charity Lunch will take place at the Canal Court Hotel & Spa on Wednesday 2nd December from 12 noon to 3.30pm.

Newry BID and Newry Chamber have stepped in to support the volunteer committee and help secure the future of the long-running event after challenges placed this year’s lunch in doubt.

Since 2000, the event has raised more than £2.1 million for those most in need across Greater Newry, thanks to the generosity of the local business community.

The needs of families have changed significantly over the past 26 years. For many households, the greatest concern at Christmas is not only what is under the tree, but how to afford food, heating, clothing, essential household items and support during difficult times.

Following careful consideration, the event is moving away from the traditional toy mountain model. Funds raised this year will instead support the wider needs of local families through cash and voucher donations to six charities:

· SVP - Society of St. Vincent de Paul Ireland
· Bolster Community
· Caring Coins Association
· Women's Aid Armagh Down
· Simon Community Northern Ireland
· Cuan Mhuire Newry

Businesses can support the fundraising effort by booking a table, attending the event and, where possible, making an additional donation.

Tickets cost £70 plus VAT per person or £650 plus VAT for a table of ten.

Book Tickets:

Make a donation:

Now that the future of this important event has been secured, Newry BID is encouraging the local business community to get behind it once again and help reach as many families and individuals as possible this Christmas.
