I wonder which World-class Darts players are going to win these beauties : the PDC Player of the Year Awards, designed and handmade here in my East Sussex Studio, using handcut Welsh Slate, custom made Jade glass, laser etched and inlaid with pure Gold Leaf, held in place with Sterling Silver fittings and mounted on ebonised Sycamore plinths. The top award, for the supreme Player of the Year features handcut and 'hackled' Italian Carrara Marble. Whatever sport you or your company sponsor, if you need a bespoke trophy, we need to talk. Here's a tip to stop any of you who use a Microweld or Microflame going deaf for a few minutes : when you do a full stripdown service on said soldering unit, cleaning out the main canister that holds the very caustic solution, replacing some of the clear plastic tubes, refilling the MEK (Methyl Ethyl Ketone) canister etc., don't use a lighter to soften the ends of the plastic tube(s) to help them slip over the metal tubes attached to the canisters, because there will be some invisible MEK vapour floating around...... Here's what happens : it goes F**KING BAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAANGGGGG !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Also check that the gasket on top of the main caustic solution canister is seated properly, because when those fumes mix with the MEK, the BAAAAAAANGGG is even louder. Every day is a school day in this wonderful Jewellery trade. Stay safe, chums.

It's always great fun designing a piece of jewellery with a client who has a passion for a particularly unusual interest, sport, or period in history. The lady for whom this ring was to be a Christmas present is fascinated with mycelia, (the root systems of fungi) and associated mushrooms, etc. and asked if I could produce a ring that looked as if the gemstone had these strands (hyphae) growing around and over it. It took a while to 'grow' and weave the Platinum wires from the shank in and out of the 18 carat yellow gold collet holding the stunning Golden Citrine, accented with yellow gold fungi, but I am very happy with it, and so was she. Congratulations Luke Littler on retaining the PDC Europe Paddy Power World Darts Championship. It gives me such a buzz seeing trophies on TV, which I have designed and made in my East Sussex Studio, especially finding out that last night's final was watched by over 4.5 million people on Sky Sports alone : the most-watched non-football event in their history! It is now 35 years since I started making all the major trophies for Barry Hearn's Matchroom organisation and it's an honour to do so. There were two other awards presented last night : Master of Ceremonies John McDonald and referee George Noble were inducted into the PDC Hall of Fame, and I was commissioned to make those as well.

What a bunch of arse*oles the US Customs and Border Protection are (part of the US Dept. Of Homeland Security) : I export the majority of my Historic Jewellery replicas to the US ,with generally no problem, but occasionally they completely screw up. I often prepay the annoying tariffs so the items don't become overpriced, and fill in all the correct forms. Then they'll rip the package apart, undo the presentation case(s), check the contents match the description, weight, etc., then still not bother to deliver it, but send it all the way back to me! FFS, have a word with yourselves and do the job you're paid for.

I'd like to wish a wonderful Christmas to all my FB followers, amazing clients at Mike Shorer Jewellery, the two Military-based Charities I am a trustee for : True Heroes Racing and Team Endeavour, my biker mates at Flying Rabbits Motorcycle Club, all my friends at Newhaven Chamber of Commerce, my family, and everyone else who enriches my life. Whatever your beliefs are, when it comes down to it, it's quite simple : we are put on this planet to help those less fortunate than oneself and to leave it looking more beautiful than when we arrived.
