In a bid to support the growing steel industry, the government has taken a big step to boost production by attempting to limit the amount of steel entering the UK from overseas. The new Steel Strategy regulations introduce higher tariffs and lower quotas for steel imported from July 2026 onwards, in the hope that more manufacturers and builders will move to using locally sourced and recycled steel.

You must bring ID to recycle scrap metal at Singleton's to comply with the Scrap Metal Dealers Act 2013 - this law prevents thieves from selling stolen metal.

Reports of scrap metal theft are on the rise 📈

In the period December 2025 – February 2026, metal theft had increased by 114% when compared to the same period the previous year.*

At Singleton's we help combat this crime by always asking for your identification and bank details when you bring your scrap metal to us.

In accordance with legal requirements, we ask for proof of identity for anyone selling scrap to help to deter metal thieves from selling their stolen scrap metal and to protect local scrapyards from criminal activity.
