Started as an artistic research project by a London-based visual artist Akiko Ban in collaboration with a digital media designer Taiyo Nagano, MYSTIC FORMS is an experimental jewellery brand inspired by the 'mystic forms' found all around the world. Akiko is a practice artist originally from Tokyo known for her lively drawings and sculptures that seek to establish a primitive, naturalistic and spi

ritual view of the world. In the process of creating this ‘Wearable Art’, she aims to create a special ritualistic and theatrical art object that acts as a prop and converts the wearer into an art piece themselves. Exploring the relationship between art and body is one of the research areas pursued by Akiko in her art practice. She has previously collaborated with Japanese fashion brand ‘matohu’ and has also worked with choreographers and contemporary dancers. For this project, she has chosen jewellery as her medium, to demonstrate her belief that art should be more accessible, personal and enjoyable for everyone. MYSTIC FORMS strives for a new approach exploring the boundaries between art and fashion. Akiko holds a MFA in Sculpture from Slade School of Fine Art and a BA in Drawing from Camberwell College of Arts (UAL) . Her works have been exhibited internationally and her recent projects include the collaboration with Basement Jaxx and the legendary Japanese animation Neon Genesis Evangelion. Her work ‘Sky Goddess’ was selected for RA summer show in 2016. Taiyo is a graphic and digital media designer originally from Tokyo and he is an integral part of MYSTIC FORMS as a creative director. He is the founder of the east London design studio Tamassy Creative which he set up in 2010. He holds an MA in Digital Arts from Camberwell College of Arts (UAL) and BA in International Studies from Meijigakuin University in Japan.

Inspiration behind our New BAUHAUS Collection🟡🔺🔹

Earlier this year, we travelled to Dessau, Germany for a research trip, visiting the Bauhaus Museum, the Bauhaus Building and the Masters’ Houses.

Experiencing these places in person gave us different perspective on Bauhaus — not only its iconic architecture, forms and colours, but also the ideas and ethos behind the movement🧠

We were especially inspired by its spirit of experimentation, creativity, collaboration and education — and by the idea of bringing art, design and making together.

We came back to the studio with lots of sketches, ideas and inspiration, which gradually began to shape our new collection✏️

Here are a few moments from Dessau that stayed with us and became part of the journey behind the BAUHAUS Collection.

The new collection launches at the end of September.

We can’t wait to show you more ✨

From Kerala to a late-summer bloom🪷

The LOTUS Studs, is part of our RASA Collection — inspired by the timeless elegance of the lotus flower and the rich visual language of Indian culture and aesthetics.

The design comes from our research trip to Kerala, India, where we encountered lotus flowers blooming throughout the landscape. Their delicate beauty and graceful presence stayed with us long after the journey.

The lotus holds a special place in Indian culture and symbolism, often associated with beauty, purity and spiritual awakening 🌿

Inspired by the timeless elegance of the lotus flower, these earrings draw from Indian culture and aesthetics, translating that inspiration into a contemporary, wearable form.

A late-summer statement inspired by Ancient Egypt☀️✨

Introducing the HATHOR Necklace from our GIZA Collection.

This piece began with our journey through Egypt, where we encountered the powerful forms and symbolism of ancient Egyptian art first-hand.

Hathor, one of the major goddesses of ancient Egypt, was associated with love, music, fertility and rebirth. She is often depicted with the horns of a cow and a sun disk — symbols of her maternal and celestial nature.

During our visit to Egypt, we were drawn to the distinctive shape of Hathor’s headdress. Back in the studio, this became the starting point for a series of sketches, gradually transforming an ancient symbol into a contemporary piece of wearable art.

The GIZA collection reimagines sacred symbols such as the sun, the pyramid, and the eye as contemporary forms of wearable art, celebrating Egypt’s enduring legacy of beauty, power, and spirituality.

The HATHOR Necklace brings together layered geometric forms, vibrant colour and sculptural detail — a bold statement piece for late-summer styling and beyond.

Handcrafted in our London studio, each piece carries a little part of the journey🌍✏️✨

Summer nostalgia, the City Pop way🏝️🎶
Featuring the NAGISA Hoops from our CITY POP Collection.

NAGISA means “beach” in Japanese, and this design is inspired by the nostalgic beauty of Japan’s seaside landscapes — where bright summer days, ocean breezes and the carefree atmosphere of a beach resort meet the world of Japanese City Pop.

Emerging in the late 1970s and flourishing throughout the 1980s, City Pop captured a vibrant, optimistic and sophisticated vision of urban life — often with the feeling of summer just around the corner ☀️

Layered geometric forms and flowing details echo the movement of waves and the rhythm of the shoreline, translating that nostalgic coastal atmosphere into contemporary wearable art.

Handcrafted in our London studio using layered laser-cut acrylic and FSC-certified wood, NAGISA brings together bold shapes, vivid colours and playful design.

And to complete the mood, we created a City Pop Mix in collaboration with Tokyo-based experimental DJ UC — a soundtrack inspired by the world behind the collection, from day to night 🪩🎧

Put on your headphones, turn up the volume, and let yourself drift into a Japanese summer 🤿🫧
