LEGACY | LOST WAX 🕯️✨
Did you know the ancient technique I use dates back thousands of years?
For centuries, lost wax casting, also known as cera perdue, has been at the heart of fine jewellery, passed down through generations of master artisans.
This time honoured craft is deeply rooted in my Colombian heritage. It was once used by pre-Columbian tribes such as the Muisca, Quimbaya, and Tairona to create intricate gold pieces.
These objects weren’t just decorative, they told stories of culture, spirituality, and deep connection to nature. Like the legendary Muisca raft, a ceremonial artefact symbolising the myth of El Dorado. (Image 5)
The process begins with a delicate wax model, carefully sculpted by hand. Once encased in clay and heated, the wax melts away, leaving a perfect mold. Molten metal is then poured into the form, bringing to life a unique creation, each piece as intricate and detailed as the artisan who crafted it. (Image 2-4)
These incredible images from one of my favourite places, the Museo del Oro in Bogotá, continue to inspire how I see and make jewellery today, where each creation is a celebration of slow craftsmanship, honouring the past while embracing the present.🌞✨
