Yesterday I went to see the Frida Kahlo exhibition at Tate Modern and I really loved it🌸🌺
What I’ve always loved about Frida is not only her work, but her strength, her story, and the way she built such a powerful visual identity through her paintings, clothing, flowers and jewellery. Her style felt so personal and symbolic, and I think that’s one of the reasons I’ve always felt connected to her as a designer.
Seeing the jewellery in the exhibition was probably one of my favourite parts. It reminded me how much adornment can say about someone, their culture, their pain, their beauty and their ‘sense of self’. That has always been something very close to my own work too.
Many years ago I carved a ring inspired by Frida, and seeing this exhibition made me think about it again. I’m now thinking of reworking it a little and bringing it back…
If you get a chance head to the Tate modern …🌺
