18ct Gold Red Spinel and Diamond Ring ⭐

UK O - US 7
6.4g
0.98ct (7.1 by 5mm)
Vintage Setting

Swapped an amethyst from another ring and put this in! We love amethyst but the setting was too perfect not to upgrade. Also environmentally better to upcycle ♽

Heavy 18k gold with brilliant, sparkly white diamonds.

Spinel famously tricked royalty and gem hunters for thousands of years — the giant red “ruby” in the British crown is actually spinel. Easy mistake… just like tanzanite can match sapphire, great red spinel can rival ruby. It forms in similar conditions, often found near corundum (Ruby an Sapphire) 🪨 ⛏️

Red spinel can get very expensive… this one is great, but it gets even fancier. Unlike ruby, spinel comes in larger sizes — imagine one of these the size of an eye. The jump into 5-figure stones isn’t just size, it’s saturation and colour. Subtle… but once you see it, you see it.

The finest are “Jedi” or Mahenge spinels — glowing, neon reds, almost like a super inferno or… a lightsaber 🪐

This one is just shy of a carat — great size, VVS, cherry red. Bright indoors and out, which is what defines spinel. Often outperforming garnet and commercial ruby.

Good spinel can look like great ruby… but the very best of both don’t look like anything else.

Seen next to a green sapphire and diamond ring in natural light… not bad 😏

Vintage 18ct Gold Ring - Twin Green Sapphire Hearts & Yellow Diamonds

💚

💚

This unique custom-made ring is in solid 18ct gold and features a beautiful, romantic design with two heart-cut green sapphires set on top of each other.

Between the sapphires sit two yellow diamonds, creating an awesome contrast and some extra sparkle to this already very eye-catching piece.

The total sapphire weight is 2 carats, nice and substantial - both with there own tone, giving the ring fantastic colour, depth, and presence. The lighter one is actually a bicolour sapphire as it has some yellow n blue flashes inside of it.

Originally a bespoke piece created to mark a special moment for its last owner, the ring is now ready to begin another chapter with someone new who will love and wear it. So this is a one-of-a-kind piece you won’t find repeated and perfect if you are looking for something special.

So crazy the colour on these sapphires as well and really good clarity.

Made at some point in the 90s!

Straight from the earth and so special. I wanted this post to have a good Ruby and a Sapphire to go next to the emerald and diamond either side but I ended up happier with how this turned out. These are all underdog gems but just as fantastic if not more than the mainstream stones. The colours are so strong and similar but separate to rubies or sapphires. They have there own qualities that make them stand out, Sapphire is usually regarded as the high standard but only the most expensive will be as clean or bright as these!

These are high quality examples, only wee but very attainable. You can get Garnets, Aquamarines and Spinel as big as actual stones, not the size of skittles like a Sapphire which would cost more and could be even smaller.

These gems are rarely if ever treated, especially Garnet and Spinel. Aquamarine can be but it is easy to find material that is totally natural and quite massive. This one is little but the colour is exceptional. The Spinel here goes from a warmer to softer blush pink in white light or sun. It’s the first spinel I ever bought 🌸 The ring isn’t vintage✌️ The garnet is just DEEP red, it glows like a and my favourite of the bunch...or maybe the aquamarine! It’s not easy aha

Which one would you choose?

..this sold so quickly that I still haven’t taken it down from my Etsy - and I don’t want to yet because of all the views it’s getting 😭

At least it’s going to a happy home 💫 Rings from the beginning of 20th century and before do not tend to have assay stamps or hallmarks but often will have a date instead which is actually far more easier to understand. You are usually looking at a small, deteriorated symbol next to another deteriorated letter of the alphabet hidden somewhere on the jewellery ... It makes identifying when your vintage jewellery was made very difficult sometimes.

Here we have a tiny 1902 stamp which is hillarious because it could almost look like it read ‘1 8 C T’. It is 18 karat gold but the fastest way of checking would be with acid and with a ring like this I wouldn’t even let it near lemon juice. So you can Xray your gold instead and this was indeed 18ct. This style is so classic that without the little 1902 there would be no way of knowing that it was Edwardian.

It has some bumps and wear but a lot less than you will see from other rings this age. Its 100+ years old. It isn’t a new ring so there is often an associated patina to the stones and jewellery of this period. But this has held up remarkably. 💚

Vintage 18ct Sapphire and Diamond Ring - 1.5ct - Certified ✨✨

This is the uber popular style called a flush setting but is commonly known as a ‘Gypsy’ ring. The look first appearing in the Victorian era with little if any changes since.

Love this colour as well, it’s less royal blue but still has some of that classic Ceylon Navy and reminds me a little of colbalt spinel.

Not mine to sell! 🌚💙

Awesome lil collection nearly all sold…A 9ct sapphire cross, emerald ring and an 18ct UNHEATED sapphire ring that I set myself🧑‍🔧 Hopefully someone will be getting it very soon, it’s in 4 people baskets atm! 🙏

I love green sapphires. They’re so separate to the other green gemstones like Emerald, Peridot or Tourmaline. What shade of green would you call this one? Apple green or is it more mint? 🌱

I was told in Thailand that Emeralds are “evergreen” as in they are what’s always in demand. So far it’s been true, this one was in store less than a week. It hasn’t been easy to find more so if you see a good one get it quick…! 👀

Totally stunning 🤯 Custom made in Indonesia 🇮🇩 Three 18ct Sapphire pendants on an awesomely long box link chain also 18ct.

The work and design on the back of the large blue one could actually be my favourite part of the entire thing and they’re all also bezel set which is super cool.

Simple, subtle and somehow still showy but most importantly super gemmy.

Love this pendant/chain/sapphire combo

Vintage 10ct Gold “Eye of Providence” Pendant
👁️ 🔺

The Eye of Providence is often linked with Masonic symbolism, but the image itself goes back much further. Seen throughout history and Christian iconography as the “all-seeing eye,” it has carried meanings of protection, divine watchfulness, wisdom and a guiding presence across cultures and centuries.

This little charm is a modern take on a very old symbol — one that still feels powerful today.

Antique 18ct Gold Amethyst ‘F**a’ Charm
🤜 🌸✊

Perfectly purple pink and utterly awesome ☺️ this charm is borrowed from my mumbo. Like a lot of antique jewellery there’s no hallmarks but there’s no mistaking 18 carat gold! ✨

Possibly Victorian or even older, the F**a motif or fist you see here carved wonderfully from amethyst, has been used as a symbol in jewellery for centuries. It has had different meanings from good luck, to fertility and even warding off evil spirits.

In 16th and 17th century Europe, people were deathly afraid of poison and would take pendants just like this to dip into their drinks to dispel toxins.

Metals like silver were also thought to tarnish in the presence of poison, so a silver spoon, amulet or charm would be be swirled in wine or water as a test.

Before the 17th Century they were most common in Italy, Spain, and Portugal, f**as were usually made from attainable organic materials — wood, bone, jet, or simple silver.

Even below the toxic conscious lords, working folk and people of modest means, people of all status wore jewellery and symbols like this.

They would be worn on strings or pinned to even children’s clothing and used for function: protecting from the malocchio (evil eye) for bad luck.

They were common enough that even the Church tolerated them, framing them as “cultural” rather than overtly pagan.

From the 17th century with colonial trade brought more exotic materials, particularly Spanish and Portuguese nobles favoured and commissioned extremely detailed and expensive versions of the F**a but with gold, coral and jewels. 🪸💎

By the 19th century they had made their way to Britain as a trendy and fashionable talisman or charm that had a little old world “magic” … fitting Victorian Britains love for the supernatural 🦇
