My inspiration often begins with found objects, old letters and photographs etc. I’ve always loved ephemera! In my 20's, I was, I imagine, the youngest member of the Ephemera Society! Their Sunday fairs, that I'd always attend (alone!) became a huge source of inspiration to me.
These precious things, have always been a springboard for my creativity, allowing me to weave in a little narrative and sentiment.
Antique jewellery, particularly Victorian and Georgian, is another great love. This 19th-century chatelaine, gifted to me by my beloved Godmama, is the perfect example.
⛓️ A chatelaine was an ornamental belt hook worn by the 'Mistress of the Household' from the 18th century, with suspended chains, essentially a practical toolkit worn at the waist and a wonderful predecessor to today’s handbag!
⛓️ I’ve taken inspiration from this beautiful piece to create a JdL version, which I can’t wait to share with you soon.
The blend of old and new has always fuelled my creativity and always will.
