When our lovely client sent us this sapphire and asked us to do whatever we could to improve it, we immediately saw its potential. The stone had a very deep pavilion with an off-centre culet, causing a windowing effect that washed out the colour. The crown facets were poorly executed, the polishing was sub-standard, and the overall symmetry was noticeably off.

This is quite common with stones cut in commercial cutting centres abroad, where the focus is often on retaining as much weight as possible. It’s not necessarily the cutters’ fault either — many are paid based on finished weight and don’t realise that a well-cut stone can achieve significantly higher value.

We managed to completely transform this sapphire, bringing back its beauty and brilliance — and kept the weight safely above 3 cts too 🥰
