Happy LGBT History month y'all...
Today marks the 10th anniversary of Panti Bliss's historic 'Queen’s Speech'...
This day is a landmark in Irish LGBT history, where Panti, a renowned Irish drag queen and Rory O’Neill’s alter ego, stood up for LGBT acceptance and challenged deep-rooted societal norms. Through her personal struggles and experiences, she brought to light the everyday realities of the LGBT community, advocating for empathy and understanding.

Panti Bliss's legacy is a beacon of hope and inspiration for us at ***rTheNorm, embodying the fight against societal norms through authenticity and courage. Their journey is a testament to the power of the LGBT communities in driving change. Today, as we remember her impactful words, we are reminded that the fight against oppression is far from over. LGBT communities worldwide must continue to speak out against injustice. Our journey towards equality and acceptance continues.

Let’s take this day to reflect on how far we’ve come and the road ahead. Your role in this journey is invaluable. Keep moving forward, making strides in our collective quest for equality.
Ignorance is not bliss... but Panti IS!

🌟🏳️‍🌈 Celebrating 20 Years of LGBT History Month with Q***r The Norm 🏳️‍🌈🌟

Hey there, fabulous Q***r The Norm family! Tomorrow LGBT History Month celebrates it's 20th anniversary!
Two decades ago, a seismic shift happened. The repeal of Section 28 came through, breaking the chains of Thatcher's Britain and paving the way for us to be acknowledged in educational spaces. Can you believe we've been living our truth out loud for 20 years now?

As a company dedicated to inclusivity and championing LGBT rights, we at Q***r The Norm recognise the significance of this moment. It's not just about remembering our past; it's about honouring the courage and resilience that brought us here. We've turned pain into power, oppression into opportunity, and continue to challenge norms every single day.

📣 But let's get real – the journey isn't over. The legacy of Thatcher's Britain may seem like a distant memory, but the fight for our rights and recognition marches on. We're here to keep pushing boundaries, shattering stereotypes, and advocating for the rights we so rightfully deserve.

So, this LGBT History Month, let's celebrate how far we've come and gear up for the road ahead. We're more than a community; we're a movement. A movement that stands for love, equality, and the unapologetic expression of our true selves.

Join us in flying the flag of diversity high. Let's make this month a beacon of hope, a source of strength, and a reminder of our unwavering commitment to Q***r The Norm. Because when we stand together, there's nothing we can't achieve.

🌈✊ Here's to 20 years of breaking barriers and creating a world where everyone is free to be themselves. The future is inclusive, and it's looking brighter than ever with you by our side!
We are more than just a pride flag... we are the LGBT COMMUNITIES!

The Icon, Julie D'Aubigny aka La Maupine was a 17th-century bisexual French opera singer and fencing master. Her life of non-conformity is the blueprint in not giving a f**k…. They once took the Holy Orders just to have nightly rendezvous with one of the nuns.

This Q***r icon needs little introduction; Oscar Wilde, the Victorian godfather of fops and dandies, whose wit, flamboyance and punk rock attitude were legendary. It was these qualities however, that would be his undoing.
His jail sentence for his homosexuality which led to an untimely death, means that Oscar Wilde should be considered a martyr of sorts.
Not only that, his work , which continues to inspire and captivate audiences is just as amazing as the icon behind them.

Q***r representation has varied throughout humanity's history, but this Cave Art (circa 8000 BCE) created by the San bush peoples may just be the earliest.
So, if anyone needs evidence of q***r existence in ancient times, these stunning Cave paintings discovered near Guruve in Zimbabwe are evidence of same-sex sexual relations dating back 10,000 years.

It wouldn't be Q***r History month without mentioning Frida Kahlo.
It isn’t hard to see from Kahlo's Paintings that their life was traumatic, but the strength and tenacity of Frida Khalo saw them channel this trauma into their art.
Khalo has since become a role model for generations of artists, people with disabilities and bisexual women.
Her artistic legacy can be seen throughout our culture with that trademark monobrow Khalo is one of the most influential and recognisable artists of all time. They just happened to be q***r.
Kahlo was married to fellow artist Diego Rivera; each of them had lovers as well. Kahlo had affairs with both men and women, including movie stars Dolores del Rio, Paulette Goddard and Maria Felix.

Marlene Dietrich
You may know German actor Marlene Dietrich from their Movies which spanned seven decades, but they are included here for being a bisexual anti-war q***r style Icon; Even Madonna mentions Dietrich in the song Vogue.
And if that seal of approval isn’t enough, Dietrich was part of a group of le***an, and bisexual Hollywood women referred to as the "sewing circle." Dietrich's female lovers reportedly included actresses Tallulah Bankhead and Claudette Colbert, chanteuse Edith Piaf, and French author Colette.

Today's Historical Q***r Art Icon is...
Sappho!
When selecting who to include in my Q***r Artistry series, Sappho immediately sprung to mind.
Sappho was an Archaic Greek poet from the island of Le**os. Their work features themes of love between women. Although it is impossible to categorise the ancient world in terms of modern sexuality, Sappho has become somewhat of an icon for Women who prefer the love of other women in modern times. The contemporary term le***an is an allusion to Sappho, originating from the name of the island where she was born, where historical evidence suggests that It was here groups of young women were educated under the charge of Sappho.

Sappho is known for her lyric poetry, written to be sung while accompanied by music.

In case anyone was wondering, q***r folx have been around forever. A speech by Aristophanes at Plato's Symposium (circa 360 B.C.E) described three different sexes: men attached to men, women attached to women, and men attached to women. They were split in two by the Gods, leaving them with a constant desire to seek their other half.
