‘Misty and Lorenzo in the Mountains’

Outfits made using paper, oil pastel, pritt-stick and embroidery thread. Set courtesy of Violet, acrylic on canvas.

Emma transformed these mannequins into miniature people with entire lives ahead of them. Whimsical, colourful, joyful.

Who agrees we should scale up?

Ethereal marks made by Lana: this piece seems to speak to the last blooms of summer. David had plenty to say about this piece (as pictured).

Using diluted ink and monoprint, painting meets printmaking.

Here’s something you might not know about Tom… Not only is he a fantastic artist and charming individual - he’s also the namesake of Tom’s Cafe at the legendary Battersea Arts Centre in South London. Tom works at the Battersea Arts Centre where you’ll find him propping up the bar and chatting to locals. Here are some paintings Tom’s made to celebrate his connection with the legendary cultural institution.

Chantel brings warmth to the studio - her laughter is always the soundtrack of the day. Her experimental and vibrant pieces radiate fun and a sense of play - through the cutting, sticking, clay, drawing and painting, you can feel her laughter.

Come with us to the Tate Modern!

This trip was a reminder that just because a gallery is enormous doesn’t mean ypu have to see it all. It can be more meaningful to focus on just one room and take a long time thinking and sketching a single artwork. It is also hard focus when you’re not hydrated, well fed and not too hot!

We took rests and went home very happy.

To see these works we challenge you to find Room 12 on Floor 2 of the Natalie Bell Building. The room is called ‘Teach by Example’ 🧐

A bold canvas from a bold artist! The excellent Hanni uses bright colours, expressive marks and sweeping gestures to make her pieces here at the Artbox studio. By rotating the canvas, Hanni is able to paint around the surface - with textures made from brushes, paint sticks and hand printing.

Today Violets painting became 3D.

When we stepped outside the studio to fly her latest bird, she said “I have found my calling and it is three dimensional”.

Violet, and volunteer Will, were inspired by toy glider planes you make as a kid. They combined engineering with nostalgia and this is what came out.

It starts with a blank canvas… then Liam’s incredible creativity takes over. Willing to experiment and evolve from piece to piece - his latest painting is one of his most mind-boggling. Titled ‘Ribcage Diagram’, Liam says “it’s inspired by how I feel about myself and how I feel all the time.” You can check out more of Liam’s work on artboxlondon.org.
