From photographer’s model to photographer - Lee Miller started out as Man Ray’s muse but soon became his pupil. She turned her artistic eye outwards and went on to become a war correspondent and photographer, capturing some incredible images of World War II. She became a witness to history that ultimately traumatized her so much that she set aside her camera in later life and nearly destroyed her portfolio of photographs. But her son managed to save them for posterity. A beautiful exhibition that is so worth seeing, if you’re in London - on at Tate Britain till 15th February 2026. .

This documentary, about the Palestinian photographer, Fatma Hessona, affected me more than I thought it would. Made by the Iranian documentary maker, Sepideh Farsi, it is a series of interviews between the two and features many of her photographs. What I didn’t know was that it turned into a memorial to her and her wonderful work. She was killed in an Israeli air strike just one day after her last interview with Farsi (shown in the documentary), who had told her that the documentary would be debuted at the Acid film festival in Cannes. Farsi had invited her to attend. Such a beautiful brave person - her sole mission was to document the plight of her fellow Gazans. And such an affecting , powerful piece of film (as I stepped out of the cinema into the early evening sunlight, I had to wear my sunglasses to shade my eyes but also to hide my tears). Currently showing at the IFI.

This is a silver cast of a beautifully broken shell, found on a beach in San Francisco. After casting it, I filed it back, added a peridot stone and hey presto - just needs a chain to complete it!
