The release of the salmon-dialled 5227G felt like a return to form from Patek when it launched at Watches & Wonders this year.

Patek has been leaning into more expressive, statement-led watches of late, appealing to a different type of collector. This felt like a refreshing change of pace, channelling the refined class we’ve come to love from the Holy Trinity watchmaker.

The salmon dial is always a collector favourite, and the anthracite markers and hands are nice finishing touch.

The most interesting thing about Drake’s ‘Ice Gradient’ Daytona isn’t the diamonds. It’s that Rolex made it at all, and that we know about it.

One-off Rolexes aren’t new, but they’ve traditionally been shrouded in mystery. This one was different. Drake revealed it publicly, complete with a bespoke box, dedicated book and personalised details.

The timing is interesting too. Collectors have become increasingly drawn to off-catalogue watches and pieces with genuine individuality.

The '90s was a mega era for Blancpain. Those distinctive stepped cases housed everything from flyback chronographs to perpetual calendars, but the tourbillon sat right at the top of the tree.

This 1999 example uses Blancpain’s calibre 25, introduced in 1998 as a self-winding tourbillon with an impressive eight-day power reserve. The tourbillon takes centre stage at 12, but turn the watch over and there’s just as much to appreciate, with a beautifully decorated movement and winding rotor on display.

Blancpain from this period still feels surprisingly overlooked, especially when you consider the level of complication and finishing on offer.

Few watches have come to define a brand quite like the Lange 1.

Introduced when A. Lange & Söhne was revived in the 1990s, its asymmetric dial layout quickly became the visual signature of the manufacture. And it turns out that same architecture works really well for displaying multiple time zones.

On the Lange 1 Time Zone, the off-centre displays naturally make room for a second time zone without losing the balance that makes the original so distinctive.

It’s a complication-heavy watch, but it still reads immediately as a Lange 1.
