What would you call this ring? 👑💙

In Britain, we tend to call this style a tiara ring, while you’ll also hear the term Duchess ring in parts of Europe.

But personally? I think Grand Duchess ring has a rather better ring to it… particularly as, in Luxembourg, a Grand Duchess is the sovereign. 👑

This beautiful Edwardian example dates to the 1900s, with a rich blue sapphire surrounded by old-cut diamonds and the most wonderful miniature tiara-like diamond shoulders.

And do swipe through the photographs — sometimes an iPhone camera simply doesn’t give an antique jewel the credit it deserves!

One of the things I love most about sapphires is how they behave in different light. 💙

As an antique jewellery dealer, it’s something I always notice when I’m choosing them move from bright daylight into softer evening light and a sapphire can subtly shift in colour and character. Sometimes it’s only the slightest change, but that’s part of their magic.

For me, sapphires are amongst the most romantic and beautiful gemstones on earth. No two ever seem quite the same and perhaps that’s why I never tire of them.

Not necessarily.

One of the first lessons in gemmology is never to identify a gemstone by colour alone. Spinel, zircon, tanzanite, topaz, and even glass can all have you thinking twice.

A little vintage find I couldn’t resist 💛

These wonderfully sweet 1960s–70s puffy heart earrings have just arrived, tiny gold hearts with the prettiest little dangle. Simple, fun and incredibly wearable.

A little look at my latest finds for Parkin & Gerrish and frankly, these jewels are enough to cause a heatwave of their own! ☀️💎

From a fabulous diamond star bombé ring and a wonderfully fun confetti ring, to 19th-century amethyst and diamonds, moonstones, coloured gold, little animal charms and the prettiest diamond bow earrings.

Everything is 18ct gold, everything is one-of-a-kind, and there are quite a few pieces here I’m finding rather difficult to part with… Which would you choose?
