With wedding season in full swing, Serena has enjoyed observing the interesting shifts in engagement ring trends that she has noticed through her bespoke commissions.

At the moment, it seems that Diamonds are coming out on top over coloured stones. Clients want the timelessness and sparkle, and they want to feel confident that they won’t regret their choice. What’s changed is how they are wearing them; solitaires are back. After a period of more elaborate settings, clients are returning to the clean simplicity of a single stone. Old-cut diamonds, in particular, are in high demand, valued for their warmth and character.

Alongside that, there also seems to be appetite for something less traditional. Serena has been making five-stone diamond rings, yellow sapphire and diamond bombé rings, and other more chunky, sculptural styles for clients who want something with a new and different personality.

A Buff Top Bombé with a wonderful story 💚

A recent bespoke creation for a special client set with an unusual ‘buff top’ cut Tourmaline & Diamonds from an heirloom ring.
The ring original ring had long been treasured and hidden away a late uncle with a passion for precious things.
When our client inherited the piece, she took it to be examined, unsure whether it was genuine. She was nearly swindled, and was offered a mere £30 for the piece. She felt compelled to keep it as she felt it was worth more sentimentally, so she left. The swindler chased her down the street, suddenly increasing his offer, but she declined.
The piece then came to Serena who saw potential and identified it as a beautiful natural green Tourmaline with stunning colour, framed by six little Diamonds.
Having been cleaned up and given an entirely new lease of life in a new design, the transformation is wonderful.

A buff top is a cut combines two cutting techniques - cabochon on the top, and facets on the bottom which gives it mesmerising interplay of light and colour.
