Let me tell you that since I started going to gem shows, it’t always been a dream of mine to go to more gem shows! This is my first time at the Bangkok gem show, and we’re finally here!

But why Bangkok? Bangkok is known as the coloured gemstone capital of the world 🌏stones from most of the famous gem regions come through here, like Thailand, Cambodia, Tanzania, Madagascar, Mozambique, Sri Lanka.. so many of these end up in Bangkok! They have some of the best lapidaries and some of the best and most respected gemology labs and gemstone experts in the world.

The show has met all expectations by day one - just look at these incredible neon blue beryls 🩵 they’re emeralds, but blue!

These gemstone fairs are the best way of predicting trends in the industry, seeing what’s new and exciting, and of course what catches our eye.

We are having so much fun, and we’re sharing everything that we get up to this week on our Bangkok highlight. I really hope that you’ll join in, learn something about gemstones, and be part of all the fun that we’re having 💫

You loved the first one, so here’s another! Your guide to antique chain types and how they differ from their modern counterparts, Pt. 2 ⛓️💫

From the fabulous Figaro to the truly ancient foxtail (with some fun examples like the rollerball🛼 thrown in), we love our trusty chains! Where I didn’t have great examples I learn on some of the best of the best - thank you , and (all of whom routinely have some of the best in antique and vintage chains)

Have we missed any? Comment down below⬇️

It’s time for our August round-up of You Wore It Best! 🌞 August saw lots of sunny yellow golds (with some silver thrown in), alongside our usual dose of fabulous gemstones.

Your stacks continually inspire us at TPL HQ - keep tagging!

1. Lee wearing a chunky antique chain ring and a newly made (for us!) bolt ring - both sapphires (this styling with pearls is sending us) 🦪🌊
2. nopressure_gems wearing a t-bar with a vibrant chrome tourmaline stone (isn’t she gorgeous) 💚
3. au_bsessed with a silver stack featuring our curb chain and sapphire bracelet (big fans of scrunchie chic) ⛓️🩶
4. julie with an adorable berry ensemble and our garnet pixel peabug double clasp (please follow for iconic styling) 🫐🥭
5. K pretty in pink with a t-bar and pink sapphire (obsessed with the high carat clasps here!) 💖

TPL turned 5 today & we recently welcomed 30k of you (so we had a little cake🎂)

And there’s no time like a birthday to review the year. So...

do you remember last September when we fulfilled a dream to visit the Tsavorite mines of Kenya?

Fast forward to November which saw so many of those stones used in incredible Tsavorite pieces at TPL! 💚

I’ll never forget these elephants roaming outside the Tsavorite mine.. 🐘

Fixations on hot pink Mahenge spinel and unheated Tanzanite also launched… tbh any excuse to wear my trusty specs 🤓

Our first ever GEMbellished pieces - nothing could have prepared us for how wild you went for these!

so we made you many, many more! 450 and counting... 🧮

We went to the Tucson gem show and took some of you with us - kinda - selecting your perfect gemstones live from the show🌵

We soon outgrew our home office (bye bye kitchen table👋) and turned this white box into...

our SE3 studio! 🥹

A place filled with colour and gemstones 💫 (and old gold)

We continued travelling to source incredible & characterful gemstones...

and our obsession with gold hardware (naturally) took us to Italy 🍝
. where we’re echoing the craftmanship of antique pieces in our own solid gold hardware ⛓️

Our Parisian treasure hunt for high carat old gold was a huge success 🗺️

and you loved our French GEMbellished pieces 🇫🇷💎

We’ve introduced a bunch of showstoppers 💚

with new designs and dream pieces constantly in the works 🧪✨💎

Thank you & here’s to the next year! 🥂 Sarah, Hannah & Emily xox

🎉 Honoured to be a finalist in the GREAT IDEAS category of the National Association of Jewellers Awards! The NAJ

If you’ve been following along you’ll know our small-but-mighty Studio has been a real labour of love and we are so proud to be shortlisted in the National Association of Jewellers Awards for Store Design of the Year 🥲

Throughout the summer we have been welcoming many of you to our relaxed space where you can discover pieces and gems with us. We are by appointment only (easy to book via the website!) and the added benefit is getting a sneak preview of pieces before they hit the grid 😉

Wanna see a magic trick? 🪄 Colour change sapphires are my #1 crush right now and I wanted to show you the difference between colour change and bi-colour.

Many dealers miss colour change in gemstones (garnets are another example of a gemstone which might exhibit colour change) because they only check them under synthetic light 💡 but when you take them outside or play with mixed lighting (my personal favourite!), the stone completely transforms 💫🦋

Bonus fact: as a rule of thumb, if a sapphire has colour change (aka colour shift when it’s more subtle) that’s a good indicator that it hasn’t been heat treated. It’s estimated that over 90% of sapphires have been subject to some heat treatment (I don’t think it’s a bad thing, but it is a totally different topic) so that’s a pretty nifty piece of info to keep up your sleeve 📚

Silver lovers line up! A whole bunch of silver and sapphire babies hit the website this afternoon as well as a TPL (perhaps world…?) first! Two antique gold rollerball rings with gemstones. Perfect for people like me who can’t keep still 😬

So excited that our push connector clasps (made by our Italian clasp wizards) are now available! We make our GEMbellished clasps - at least the ones that don’t swivel - in a standard orientation so that they can clasp to one another and make bracelets. But if you clip one of these beauties on then that same clasp is miraculously transformed to a pendant 🪄

There are many more uses for these pieces of essential jewellery hardware which you’ll love to discover. I’ve made some (tens rather than hundreds) available to buy on the website 💫

Bespoke Focus: High Summer Commissions

We have had so many showstopper pieces go out to their new homes this month that we wanted to share!

1. a WILD 2.5ct emerald enrobed in a chunky 18ct band
2. a multi gemstone cabochon bracelet on our Midi curb chain 🍭🍬
3. a huge OEC antique diamond meets super chunky UK-made new curb chain
4. a mouthwatering 2.64ct mahenge spinel on 6.8mm antique chain ⛓️

If you’re curious about commissioning a gemstone piece you’re in good hands, Sarah and Hannah (our bespoke pieces Manager) will put their gemmologists eyes to good use to find your perfect stone. Want to learn more? Visit our commissions page on the website, or book a visit to our studio 💫

Each of earring drops is made from the (totally unique! no two the same!) last few links of the antique curb chains we have used to make chain rings with. Not a scrap of the good stuff gets wasted at TPL! This is our first ever drop of these and you can buy the studs and drops separately. I wanted to make something unmistakably The Piece for you creative bunch - I can tell you’re going to send the best photos of these in action 📸
