The 《Nine-Colored Deer Ring》 is drawn from the well-known and beautiful “The Deer King Fresco” in China. It’s located on the west wall of Cave 257 in the Mogao Grottoes, Dunhuang. Created during the Northern Wei Dynasty (386–557 AD), it is one of the best-preserved Jataka story paintings among the Dunhuang murals. It depicts the allegorical story of the Nine-Colored Deer King, who saves a drowning man only to be betrayed by him, promoting the philosophy that good and evil have their consequences.
