Thankyou to and the for organising an amazing afternoon with the Tutor Heart . The research the BM has completed on its provenance is staggering.. through extensive reading of Henry’s records and interactions with his goldsmiths .. to testing the chemistry of the enamel .. to learn about what sources the mineral in the glass were used .. the fact that in the 1510-20’s the source of cobalt used in enamel changes , nailed a crucial date . The researchers are the most incredible sleuths.

Walking the North Devon coast around Lynton and the Valley of Rocks .. I understand why the Romantic poets were drawn to this place, it’s breathtaking, literally. Go if you can. And archaeologists from working at a deserted Medieval Village in Perbeck .. my side hustle in action. The new series of brooches are a dive into the archaeology of Wessex.. the pecked patterns and inscribed lines found on stone, gold and ceramic of the Neolithic and Bronze Age . The Clandon hoard after which they are named , was found in a barrow not far from my home in Dorset … .
