June is men’s mental health awareness month. Now although I’m never a fan of ‘woman’s day’ or ‘pride month’ or ‘man’s’ anything…as if we label things we increase the divide…in this case it deserves the label as it deserves attention and needs levelling up.
I heard someone recently say that from the moment ur a young boy and u fall and cut yourself…ur told..’come on, get up, big boys don’t cry’. From a young age men are programmed without even realising this message. Well I’m telling u as a big girl who cries lots now…it’s ABSOLUTELY OK to cry. It’s your body’s natural response to trauma and last time I checked that response doesn’t care if ur a man or woman!!!
These statistics on su***de are scary. We all need to set the example to our male friends and colleagues that sharing and being authentic about your mental health is stronger than trying to brass it out alone. If you are a man reading this…BE THE EXAMPLE…because you never know who in your periphery is struggling even more and may need to see that. You may even save their life.
