Jonathan Swan - The Workshop An independent Jewellery workshop in the heart of Lewes, East Sussex. Commissions welcome. We also run evening classes and are available for daily bench hire.

The Shop
The original building dates from 800 – 900 AD, it’s 300 years older than the Norman Castle under which it sits, and 3 times older than anything non-native in North America. When we took the building over in 1981, it was in disrepair, having been the London and Provincial Butchers; and then as it slid downhill, a plumber’s store and an Oxfam shop. We started off trying to keep ahead of the

field, and provide work that the public wanted to buy, but which was daring; and that is precisely what we’re still trying to do. However we do get bored easily, so we’re always looking out for new ideas! Evening Classes
Classes are run here Monday to Thursday evenings (18:00 - 21:00) for 13 weeks a term. We have a maximum capacity of 12 people per night for with 2 tutors; and therefore a pupil ratio of 6:1. Our pupils range from school kids to the retired; some of whom have been coming to the classes for 20+ years (because the workshop is rather tricky to get away from once you've been here a while!)

Pieces made range from the very simple to the extraordinarily complicated.

Jeweller Spotlight :
Bee is known for unusual stone selection, making mostly one of a kind pieces & using silver techniques such as reticulation and etching. She grew up in Scotland and now lives in the South East.
