Are you making these 3 mistakes when storing your jewellery?
You might take great care of your jewellery when you’re wearing it, but how you store it matters just as much.
Here are three common mistakes I see people make regularly, that can lead to tarnishing, scratches and other damage:
1️⃣ Keeping everything together in one box
Rings, necklaces, bracelets and earrings all thrown together? Chains can become tangled, while gemstones and harder metals can scratch more delicate pieces.
My advice: Use separate compartments or soft pouches, and hang necklaces individually where possible.
2️⃣ Storing jewellery in the bathroom
It might be convenient, but bathrooms are usually warm and humid. Moisture can speed up tarnishing, encourage corrosion and potentially damage more delicate materials such as pearls.
My advice: Keep your jewellery somewhere cool and dry. Anti-tarnish strips or silica gel packs can also help.
3️⃣ Putting jewellery away without cleaning it
Perfume, sweat, lotions and everyday dirt can remain on jewellery after you take it off. Over time, that build-up can dull its appearance and make it harder to clean.
My advice: Give regularly worn pieces a gentle wipe with a soft jewellery cloth before putting them away.
☀️ And my bonus tip: Avoid leaving jewellery in direct sunlight for long periods. Some gemstones can gradually lose colour with prolonged exposure.
When it comes to storing jewellery, remember, it's about separation, dryness and cleanliness.
