✨ Why some sterling silver pieces cost a little more ✨

In the UK, any sterling silver item weighing over 7.78g must legally be hallmarked by one of the official UK Assay Offices before it can be sold as sterling silver.

A hallmark is your assurance that the piece has been independently tested and confirmed as genuine sterling silver — a centuries-old tradition that protects both maker and customer.

For artisan jewellers like me, this means there are additional costs involved beyond:
• the silver itself
• the time and craftsmanship behind each design

There are also:
• assay office testing fees
• hallmarking charges
• shipping and insurance costs

Every heavier Silver by Golden piece carries not only the value of precious metal and handmade design, but also the official certification of authenticity. 🤍

✨At the beautiful Palm House in Sefton Park today until 7pm, and tomorrow (Saturday) from 10.30am–6pm.

Driving here this morning, I passed Greenbank, where I was in residence during my first year — many decades ago now. Back then, this magnificent greenhouse was derelict, a fading shell of what it had once been. Seeing it today, restored and full of life, feels very special indeed.

The Golden girl couldn’t resist claiming her moment on the silver podium during a visit to the Panathenaic Stadium in Athens. History, energy, and a little playful competition in the air 😉
