I thought I would follow the example of and try out using my milling machine to score some brass sheet to get a nice accurate rectangular tube.
It's a bit of a quick and dirty set-up, I flycut the wooden block to make it vaguely flat and square to the cutter and then glued the brass down. The clamp is there as an extra precaution. The cutter is a 90⁰ countersink bit, a D-bit would be better but I don't have one and I couldn't be bothered making one for this test. My milling machine has some issues so I can't run it at top speed, so it was going rather slow for the tiny diameter of cutter. All problems aside though, so far, so good!

Preparing for my first casting session of 2026! I've moved to a more flexible blue wax, which has meant that far more snails have retained their eye-stalks. I never thought, when I decided to become a jewellery, that I would be worrying about the fate of snails eyes...
