Can I be honest with you for a second? 💚
When someone comes into Fogal & Barnes and says "I don't think I want a diamond" I genuinely smile. Because I know we're about to have a really good conversation!!

Coloured gemstone engagement rings aren't a compromise. They're a choice.... And sometimes, like the client who came to us wanting a yellow diamond but fell in love with a yellow sapphire instead, colour solves a problem you didn't know had a solution.

Do you have diamonds sitting in a jewellery box that never see the light of day? 💛 You're not alone, and guess what? It's one of our favourite things to fix.

Recently, a client popped in after spotting our Ophelia ring in the window. Whilst chatting with Mona, she mentioned a diamond she never wore anymore and two diamond studs that had been sitting untouched for years: three stones, one conversation, and we turned it into the most gorgeous bespoke ring. It's something completely hers, that she'll wear every day and one day pass to her daughter.

We also had the pleasure of resetting a stunning natural fancy yellow diamond, originally in a halo setting, into a clean, elegant gold solitaire. Same diamond, completely transformed. The difference is just breathtaking.

Okay, I need to talk about coloured gemstones because I feel like they don't get nearly enough love!

Yes, diamonds are classic and gorgeous, but there is something absolutely electric about a deep blue sapphire, or a vivid green emerald, or a ruby that just glows red like it's lit from within. We work with coloured stones a lot here at Fogal & Barnes, both in bespoke commissions and in vintage pieces. And I genuinely think they're one of the most personal choices you can make in jewellery, they carry meaning, they carry colour, and they carry so much history.

Birthstone rings, engagement rings with a twist, anniversary pieces with something meaningful if you've ever thought "I want something a bit different," a coloured stone might just be your answer.
