I finally reach the grand old age of 60 tomorrow (Monday 7th), I’m not one for a fuss but I’ve had a wonderful weekend with my family, a great meal at an Italian restaurant and a surprise visit from Oscar ~ tomorrow also marks 15 years of sobriety, one of the best things I’ve ever done (although kicking booze, ci******es and caffeine all on the same day isn’t maybe the best way), I did go back to the caffeine btw #60

For ages I’ve been struggling to understand the technical details of the laser engraving machine, power, speed, frequency, dot size, dpi, line spacing, clean up, scan angles, auto rotate, it’s a bloody mine field. However with the help of google images and basic questions “how do I avoid ……….” I’m finally getting somewhere, not sure I still totally understand it but the cuts seem to be getting cleaner and today was the first time I’ve been happy with the background of the image, only very minimal waves and honestly hardly noticeable ~ the first image is of today’s effort (unfortunately the image file isn’t as detailed as I’d had liked), the 2nd is a close up of the surface of one from last week and the 3rd is one taken yesterday after adjusting last weeks settings ~ being mindful that every time I ask the same question on google I get a different answer I do think I’ve cracked it ~ on the back of that I’ve got some ideas for new pieces so what this space

This is a real collectors piece and a piece of Rock & Roll Jewellery history.

Here we have a ring that I cast in the summer of 1986 as part of my National Diploma final project.

The brief I chose was to make a collection of jewellery for a hero, heroine or performing artist. At the time I was really into The Damned so I chose Dave Vanian as my imaginary subject.

Little did I know that this would set off a chain of events that would see me firstly meeting his then wife Laurie and then Dave backstage at their 10th Anniversary Tea Party at Finsbury Park. There I am drinking a glass of champagne while extremely nervously explaining what the collection was all about, it was there I was offered the opportunity to have my work at their shop Symphony of Shadows in Hyper Hyper in Kensington High Street.

This ring is one of those rings from that very collection, it’s part of my history and part of where it all started. Brings back so many memories and yes, it is for sale. It’s cast in bronze, it’s not the most practical and it’s not a great size, it comfortably fits my pinky finger which a size R ~ serious enquiries only, this really is a piece of my jewellery history.
