Freshwater’s High Street is now back to normal traffic flow following the reopening of Avenue Road. 👏🏻🥳

Island Roads reversed the traffic flow in the High Street, Freshwater yesterday morning at 06.30
without warning and no info followed.

It is therefore not possible to drive up to us from Avenue Road, only down from Heathfield Road/ Silcombe Lane.

There are also parking restrictions.

Customers kindly informed us that there is an emergency road closure in Avenue Road, Freshwater, due to a power failure and SSE was in attendance.
The situation on surrounding roads was described as “chaos” plus there are traffic lights at the top of Avenue Road to allow temporary 2-way traffic plus more lights in lower School Green Road on Plumbley’s Corner.

We remain open as normal but will need to be closed next Mon/Tues.

Family Business Clocks Up 74 Years Today!

F. Robert Frise, the Watchmaker, Clockmaker & Jeweller in Freshwater’s one-way High Street on the hill, celebrates its 69th birthday today, 2nd May. The original shop in Station Road (School Green Road) was rented for £1 per week in 1952 and the business blossomed. The shop has been at its current site since 1964. Business Founder Bob Frise died in December 2010 and his Daughter, Heather, passed away suddenly in July 2015. The shop went from three generations to one and is now run by Heather’s Son, Andrew, and his wife Donna. Andrew grew up in the business and learned to repair clocks before he left school whilst Donna joined the family in 2002 and has been a part of the business ever since.

F. Robert Frise offers an array of repair services from watches to mechanical & quartz clocks and all types of quality jewellery. Andrew runs the Clock Repair section of the business (Wightime) and Donna runs the shop and undertakes the engraving work (sports trophies/glassware etc). The Trophies & Awards stocked and engraved. Watch batteries, straps, and bracelets are supplied/fitted, usually while you wait. A collection & delivery service is also available.

A wide selection of clocks (old & new), barometers, watches, modestly priced gold & silver jewellery and fancy goods (incl. trinket boxes, CrystoCraft items, photo frames, pens & gifts for birthdays, anniversaries, christenings and weddings) are stocked.

The opening hours are 9.00am-4.00pm Mon-Fri and parking outside is usually possible.
