Cain has been wanting to make jewellery, but has been getting frustrated about achieving a finished design and it’s been leaving him think he is ‘bad’ at something that he is actually still learning! I’ve been trying to explain that he needs to approach it in a different way - no finished piece, just experimenting with techniques and seeing what he enjoys. We went into the workshop today and had a fun few hours just trying things with no pressure for them to turn into something and these were the items he worked on. So much more fun for the stage of learning he is at! I think everyone feels that creating is all about the finished item and whether it turns out good or bad in their eyes, but the process of learning, having fun and practice is just as rewarding! I make a lot of jewellery, but it’s been a long time since I engaged in it creatively just trying things for fun and seeing how they turn out. Today was a reminder for me as well that I definitely need to make more time for this!
