I met Sue quite a while ago when she trusted me to use some of her old diamonds and turn them into new pieces of jewellery filled with meaning and memories.
Now she came back again, this time asking me to be part of her son’s journey and help create his engagement ring.
She really wanted to use one of the family diamonds as the main stone, keeping that sentimental connection alive through another generation. But naturally there was a worry the round diamond may feel too small on its own in today’s world where social media is full of huge diamonds in every shape and size.
From the very beginning, her son was deeply involved in the process and every decision was made together. I always love when somebody truly wants to take part in creating a ring for the person they love, because it makes the piece even more personal.
Together we came up with the idea of creating an oval illusion setting using the inherited round diamond in the centre, with two additional diamonds set vertically to create the look and flow of one beautiful oval stone.
The setting itself had to be very intricate because we didn’t want the eye to focus on claws or settings. We wanted the three diamonds to feel soft, elegant and almost as one.
We then finished the design with two beautiful pear shaped lab grown diamonds on the shoulders which balanced the ring perfectly.
I truly believe there is something beautiful about bringing inherited diamonds together with modern lab grown diamonds and creating a new piece with its own story to tell.
The final ring feels elegant, clean and unique while still keeping the heart of the original family diamond at the centre of it all.
Congratulations to both of you, and thank you for trusting me to be part of such an important chapter in your lives.
