Who spotted this incredible bunch on Dragons Den recently?
was founded by Charlotte Dawe and Angus Cowen, a couple who both worked in hospitality before the pandemic.
During lockdown in 2020, they noticed something odd: Britain has a rich fishing industry, but much of the tinned fish on supermarket shelves was neither caught nor canned in the UK. They started experimenting with preserving British fish in their own kitchen, initially in Hackney, before moving to Dorset and opening their own small cannery.
They named the business after their two daughters and their first products launched in 2021.
Why we like them - and what makes them different - is that they aren’t simply selling ordinary tins of fish with premium packaging. They’re building a British equivalent of the Spanish and Portuguese conservas tradition: carefully preserved seafood made to be enjoyed as a food worth celebrating in its own right.
Their range, many of which we have in the shore shop includes:
- Cornish sardines, with flavours such as chilli, rosemary and capers.
- Smoked rainbow trout.
- Cornish hake and pollack.
- Norfolk whelks, including versions with kimchi or chilli and garlic.
Next time you’re passing this winter, pop in a grab yourself the best fishy treat on the shelves! We’re open Thursday to Saturday, 10 a.m. to 3 p.m for the winter so from now until April!
