Silver brooch with 9ct yellow gold detail and moonstones. Circa 2008
It's still one of my favourites, looking stunning in the spring sunshine streaming in my workshop window.
If you are going to wear a brooch, make a statement go big, be bold.

I am out with the blue wax today, carving up a bespoke ring to be cast in gold. I enjoy the process of wax carving. You can create a model quite quickly, although it has been a while since my last efforts, so I am a little rusty. Check in with me again later to see how this ring turns out.

Taking one last glide along the cabinet shelves The March showcase, The Golem and the Jiinni, ends today 24th March.
Looking back it feels like this month has flown by, but I have loved every minute of it.
It's been so good to take part, to give myself the challenge of creating a body of work for this showcase. To get out of the workshop, travel, meet new people, make new friends. And also to realise, despite making jewellery for almost 30 years, I still have so much to learn.

In a week when we have had the first warm days of spring it's been great to take a moment away from the bench, to feel the sun on my face again after a long winter.
At this time of year, at the changing of the seasons you never know from one day to the next what's the weather is going to do. Just as in life, you just have to roll with it. Keep the woolly hat and winter coat to hand, I have a feeling winter is reluctant to leave this year.

Do you have a preference? Silver, or gold?

I love working in both these precious metals, which is why I often use this silver and 22ct gold bi-metal. It is so versatile I can create so many different effects.
The gold is fused on the silver in a sheet, 80% silver - 20% gold so it's much thicker and more durable than gold plating. You really can have the best of both ✨️

You can take a closer look at how I have used the combination of these two metals in all four of my collections, Celtic Chaos, Black and Gold, Pathways and Confetti currently showing at FORGE until 24th March 2026

Don't overthink it. Just do it!

Often, this is advice I give myself when I am sitting at the bench. I am not a great one for sketching and drawing my ideas out in great depth. Instead, I much prefer to get making while the idea is still fresh in my mind, and let ideas develop during the making process.

Here are some 'work in progress' images from the Pathways series, based on neural networks of the brain and nervous system.

Threading the silver and gold 'synapses' in, through and around is the part of the creative process I like the best. Thinking only about where to place the next piece, and looking at the interesting shapes in between. Trusting my instincts and going with the flow.

There is still a chance to see these pieces (fully finished) and many more

📆March showcase ends on 24th.

What does your creative journey look like?
For me, it is a journey of exploration through the medium of silver and gold. I always feel it is such a privilege to work in such fine materials. I do my best to do them justice.

This month, I am delighted to be exhibiting
In 2026, their showcases draw from book titles
March’s showcase is inspired by —
The Golem and the Jinni, Helene Wecker

“for the jinn are natural metalsmiths… He could work the metals into strands no thicker than a hair, or into sheets, or twisted ropes….”

An idea of metal shaped with extraordinary sensitivity runs throughout the showcase — from subtle gold accents to bold structural contrasts, each piece reflecting skill, material understanding and intent.
