On 19 October 1958, Stirling Moss won the Moroccan Grand Prix and Vanwall secured the first Formula One Constructors' Championship. Sixty-eight years on, the Vanwall Pen remembers the green cars and their yellow nose cones: marbled green acrylic, a yellow band beneath the cap, a hallmarked 9ct gold cap band and an 18ct gold nib. An edition of 270, made in Great Britain.

On 20 October Alastair Adams, our Managing Director, presented a Raunchy Wolf replica to the RAF Hornchurch Heritage Centre, with a donation from sales of the pen. It joins the original, the Conway Stewart No. 236 recovered in 2024 from the Essex field where the B-17 Raunchy Wolf came down in 1943. Our thanks to the Hornchurch Aerodrome Historical Trust, and to Doug Hutson for the photographs.

Professor Hannah Fry went into The Celebrity Traitors with a plan borrowed from Alan Turing: the mathematics he brought to breaking Enigma.

In 1936, his paper On Computable Numbers set out the limits of what can be calculated, and laid the foundations of computer science.

Ninety years on, the Alan Turing 90 Computable Pen carries the prime numbers engraved along its barrel, and comes with a copy of the paper itself. An edition of 90, made in England.

NEW Churchill Volcano.

After the ice, the black sand and the land of fire and ice, the fire itself.

Volcano completes the Churchill’s four Iceland colours: a molten swirl of copper, amber and deep brown, like a lava field still cooling, on the flagship pen named for the statesman who wrote with Conway Stewart pens through the war years.

The warmest of the four, and the one to turn in the light.

We are exhibiting at Novotel London West, Hammersmith, on Saturday 10 and Sunday 11 October: Saturday 10.00 to 17.00, Sunday 10.00 to 16.00, early entry from 09.00.

Bring a pen that needs looking at, or simply come and write with a few. We are bringing the current collections and some pens that rarely leave the workshop.

Paul, in Australia, put his Winston Classic Brown aside for two or three months, and when he picked it up again it wrote straight away, still on its first fill from April. “Beautifully made. Gorgeous to look at. Wonderful to hold. Magnificent to write with.”

NEW Marlborough Kingsman Replica.

In Kingsman: The Secret Service, the film’s quiet justice arrives by fountain pen, and it arrives for Michael Caine’s Arthur.

The pen was a black Marlborough lever-fill made for the film by Conway Stewart.

This is its replica: the straight cap and barrel of the 1920s Marlboroughs, black ebonite with the finely lined finish of the original, filled by the lever we patented in 1924.

Spotlight on the Series 100.

In 1954 Conway Stewart launched a mid-sized pen with the torpedo shape of its day, and it became one of the most popular pens the company ever made.

Seventy years on, the Series 100 is made in fifteen colours, from Honey Noire and Nebula to Classic Black, and many of them come as a rollerball, a ballpoint or a propelling pencil as well as a fountain pen.
