Here at Artisan, Dalkeith, two of the services we are proud to offer is ring stone replacement and resetting of loose stones.

For stone replacement, our goldsmiths will work in conjunction with the gemologist to find a suitable stone, and return the ring to it's former glory.

Resetting a loose stone is more straightforward and will usually just involve replacing or retipping claws.

It is always unfortunate to lose a stone, but there some preventative techniques.

1. It is recommended that for daily wear, a ring should be checked annually by a professional jeweller. For rings worn occasionally, every one to two years is generally sufficient.

2. Self monitoring - you can gently tap the ring or lightly nudge the ring with something like tweezers, in order to check for rattling.

3. If claws are catching on fabric or clothes, this is a sign that a repair may be required.

It is also worth noting that, if a ring is insured, then it will assist with any claims if the ring has been professionally checked and repaired when necessary.

Here at Artisan we offer a wide range of watch repair services. Battery replacement starts from £6 and can generally be done there and then. Strap replacement starts from £15 and again can be fitted while you wait.

Watch link bracelet shortening or extending is £10 and we can also do this in house with a same day turnaround time.

For more complex repairs such as glass or winder replacement or watch servicing, we use an experienced watch maker and turnaround time is usually one to two weeks. ⌚️

Jewellery repair remains one of the most rewarding things which we do here at Artisan. We use a professional goldsmith and silversmith workshop to undertake the repairs and all items are not only returned repaired, but also cleaned and polished.

We also provide a free, no obligation quote for repairs if required and repair timescales are generally one to two weeks.

In the first quarter of 2026 we have already processed 51 solder repairs, 18 stone replacements/resets, 25 ring resizes, 19 ring rejoins, 10 rhodium platings and 20 catch repairs.

Again, thanks to all our valued customers from the surrounding towns in Midlothian. ❤️
