🎬 Something exciting is happening in Cromer this week… 🎬

If you’ve spotted film crews, cameras, or the odd street looking a little different than usual — you’re not imagining it! Scenes for Strike are being filmed right here in Cromer.

It’s a lovely reminder of just how cinematic our town is, from its characterful streets to that unmistakable North Norfolk light 🌊✨

If you’re popping into town to see what’s going on, make a day of it:
• see if you can hunt out where the fillings taking place
• Take a wander along the seafront
• And call in to us at Little Gems Rock Shop to warm up, have a browse, and discover something special while you’re here

We’re open as usual and just a short stroll from the town action — whether you’re a local curious about the filming, or visiting Cromer especially to soak up the atmosphere.

As you may have noticed with our increase of posts recently, we are finding it far too difficult to contain our excitement for this year's carnival, the sun has been shining and the countdown is on.

It is also now only a week until the Red Arrows will be at Cromer Carnival 2025. We have such a spectacular line up for you this year and we honestly can't wait for you to join us and enjoy everything this year's carnival has to offer.

Fossil Hunting on Cromer Beach

If you’re just starting out with fossil collecting, North Norfolks beaches are a fantastic place to begin your journey – and one of the most common and exciting fossils you might find here is the belemnite.

Belemnites were ancient marine creatures related to modern squids and cuttlefish. They lived around 100 to 200 million years ago during the Jurassic and Cretaceous periods. Unlike today’s squids, belemnites had a hard internal shell called a guard, which is the fossilised part most often found on beaches. These guards are smooth, bullet-shaped, and usually orange to brown – often the tips break off leaving little cylinder shapes .

💡 Top Tip: After high tides or storms, keep your eyes peeled for small, pointed shapes among the rock pools and along the shore. You might be surprised at what turns up!

Cromer’s coastline is part of the famous Deep History Coast, and belemnite fossils are a brilliant way to get hands-on with that history. They’re durable, easy to spot once you know what to look for, and a great introduction to fossil hunting for all ages.
