I’d forgotten this trick which I first learned during my Fine jewellery diploma. The penny supports the jump ring whilst soldering so it’s more level on your piece.

My original intention with these earrings was to set cubic zirconias into a star setting using a graver. For some reason it went wrong so instead I soldered some 9ct gold pieces of wire in the seat instead. Things can change direction at any time when you’re making jewellery!!

Making this commission required lots of problem solving and thought processes for each stage. I enjoy this type of work. It’s taxing and a challenge but incredibly rewarding when you get the results you were hoping for! It doesn’t always work out but that’s how you learn I guess!
