As the sun sets on the final day of the Second Rounds Show, record-breaking entries and record-breaking temperatures made for a weekend to remember ☀️🔥

Anna Power, not quite content with her second place finish yesterday in the Talent Seekers, rose to the challenge today in the Redpost Equestrian Foxhunter Second Round. Riding the small horse with the biggest heart, Calgary PH Z, Anna claimed the win in an incredibly fast and exciting jump-off. Second place went to Nick Benterman aboard Compton Park X, who answered every question asked of him. Congratulations to both combinations on securing their Horse of the Year Show tickets!

Iwan Carpenter rounded off what has been a fantastic week here at Wales & West by taking top spot in a competitive Wales & West 1.35m Grand Prix aboard Merllyn's Chacco B. Another thrilling jump-off kept everyone on the edge of their seats, with Ignacio Caba and Flying Star X finishing second, followed by Nicole Pavitt and Neil Bundock’s Rhodos Van De Kiekenboer in third.

Congratulations to everyone who drove away from the show with their Horse of the Year Show tickets secured - we can’t wait to cheer you all on in October!

What a weekend it has been. Brilliant sport, fantastic horses, and a lovely group of competitors who made the show such a pleasure from start to finish. Thank you all for your continued support.

As always, a huge thank you goes to our incredible team behind the scenes. To our course designers, judges, commentators, medics, catering team, stewards, photographers, arena party crew, ground staff and secretaries - thank you for the hard work, long days and commitment that keep everything running smoothly. We appreciate every single one of you.

A special mention also to Jamie at who always goes above and beyond supplying us with jumps and helping our arenas look their very best. Thank you for everything you do for us.

We hope everyone has a safe journey home and manages a quick recharge before we do it all again at the June Mixed in just a couple of weeks’ time.

Goodnight from all of us at Wales & West 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿

☀️ The second day of Horse of the Year Show qualifying action delivered another fantastic day of sport in the stunning Welsh countryside, with glorious sunshine setting the perfect backdrop for a brilliant day of competition.

A huge 95 combinations came forward to tackle Raf Suarez’s technical and demanding course, with just 6 combinations returning for an exciting jump-off.

🏆 Pippa Goddard aboard the super talented mare PDV Constanza, owned by Tom Williams stormed into the lead to secure their coveted HOYS ticket.

🥈 Anna Power and the mighty Calgary PH Z produced a superb performance to take second place and also secure their place at HOYS.

🥉 Ellie Townend, first to go and first to produce a clear aboard Kallio B, claimed third place and the final HOYS qualifying ticket.

⭐ A special mention also goes to our highest placed 7-year-old, Abbie Bevan riding Optima De Ness, who also secured a HOYS ticket. The talented young horse jumped a beautifully clear first round, narrowly missing out on the jump-off with an unlucky time fault.

Congratulations to everyone who came forward today and made it such a competitive class.

📢 Please note there has been a change to tomorrow’s timetable. The Foxhunter has moved from the Equine America Arena and will now run in the Main Arena following the W&W 1.35m Grand Prix.

We look forward to another exciting day tomorrow with the Foxhunter Second Round alongside the W&W 1.35m Grand Prix! 🌞

Today saw the first of our Horse of the Year Show Qualifiers, and what a way to kick things off!

A huge well done to all 95 combinations who came forward to take on Raf Suarez’s testing track. From those starters, 19 clears returned for round two, with 7 making it through to a thrilling jump-off.

Huge congratulations to Iwan Carpenter and Ramiro Dollar, who delivered a superb performance to take the win and secure the first HOYS ticket of the show. Fellow Welsh rider Gemma Ellison, partnering Gold Survivor, also rose to the occasion to take second place and claim the final HOYS qualification spot.

A fantastic result for Wales, two Welsh riders securing the coveted HOYS tickets on Welsh soil!

Congratulations to everyone involved on a brilliant class.

🦠 Equine Influenza Update for those attending the Cricklands May Summer Show 🦠

As a precaution following the recent reports of Equine Influenza cases, we will be implementing the following protocols with immediate effect:

✅ Passport checks will be carried out during the event to ensure horses/ponies meet the correct vaccination requirements.
✅ It is now mandatory for all competitors to bring their horse’s passport with them. Please remember this is also a legal requirement when transporting any equine.

As you are aware, The David Broome Event Centre operates under British Showjumping rules and policies. Therefore, all horses attending must have up-to-date vaccinations in order to compete.

Please see the current vaccination requirements here:
https://www.britishshowjumping.co.uk/page/Updates

British Showjumping also released a further update this morning regarding the increasing number of Equine Influenza outbreaks across the UK, which also contains good safety measures to follow:
https://www.britishshowjumping.co.uk/news/call-for-increased-vigilance-as-number-of-reported-equine-influenza-outbreaks-in-uk-continues-to-rise

In addition, Equine Bio Genie attended the venue yesterday and carried out a full disinfectant treatment across each and every stable, as they do for every show here at The David Broome Event Centre, as part of our ongoing biosecurity measures.

⚠️ Important Reminders:
• Horses vaccinated within the last 7 days are NOT permitted to compete. Horses must not attend any event venue within 7 days of vaccination.
• On arrival, passports should be open at the vaccination pages ready for inspection.
• Any competitor who cannot present their horse’s passport, or whose horse does not have up-to-date vaccinations, will be asked to leave the venue immediately.
• If you are travelling with multiple horses, please ensure that all horses on board fully comply with vaccination requirements. If any horse does not meet the requirements or a valid passport cannot be presented, that horse will not be permitted to unload and the vehicle will be required to leave the showground immediately.

If you are aware of anyone planning to attend events without up-to-date vaccinations, please feel free to make us aware so this can be handled appropriately.

Thank you for your cooperation and support in helping us protect the welfare of all horses attending our events.

📢 Please share this post and tag anyone you know who will be attending so they are aware of the above procedures.

What a class to kick things off 🔥

58 combinations took on Colm Quinn’s Longines World Ranking 1.45m track, and it did not disappoint. 13 clears rising to the challenge for a shot at the top.

Anna Power came out early and set the tone! Fast, calculated, and straight into the lead. The pressure was on from that moment.

William Rekert stepped up, partnering Tom Williams’ Fifty Shades of Grey, and delivered when it counted. Cool under pressure, sharp on every line, and just enough to edge ahead and take the win in the Longines World Ranking 1.45m 🏆

Now onto tomorrow, first of the finals! Best of luck to everyone 💥
